Speech, Drcimotics proctice expression Perhaps the broadest avenue to self-expression is in the field of public speaking and acting. Through the direction of the speech and dramatics departments, students of Glendale learned both the basic and the finer points of these arts. Dramatics students forged and sharpened their skills as amateur actors through constant practice in class and in the various assemblies held through- out the year. In class they participated in pan- tomimes, improvisations, and duet acts. As well as the tie-in element in the assemblies, they per- formed in the production of Annie Get Your Gun. At the end of each quarter, the speech class got to show its colors in the Neophyte tourna- ment held at each of the four Springfield public high schools. Covered in these tournaments were oratory, poetry, duet acting, and debate. The speech squad traveled to six out-of-town tourna- ments. , A 1 ,Pas 1 554?-'- sl A ' - . bdoveldihj Odd Couple provides a unique opportunity for dramatic interpretation an in iv: ual performance for dramatics students, Tom Durkin and Lonnie Bechtel glial?
