Along with the biographies of famous people, the English ll stu- dents studied the techniques of correct composi- tion and the usage of the English language. Act- ing out the parts of some of the plays enabled the students to identify with the characters. English l gave freshmen their first chance to analyze a novel. Through class discussion and in- dividual work they went beneath the story of a novel to find the symbolic meanings. They also studied the classic tragedy of Romeo and Juliet along with Greek, Roman, and Norwegian myth- ology.
