GZQ44 Jim' Now the history of the Class of Seven-and-Forty, of the l-lrgh School of the City of Clencoe, County of Etowah, State of Alabama, is in this w.se ln the beginning, in the Two and Fortieth Year of Cur Lord, in the eighth month, and on the twenty-fourth day of the month there entered into this Land of Learning, nine-and-twenty seekers of knowledge, Some came up trom the Seventh grade where they had for many months been busily engaged in storming their minds with the honey of wisdomg some were green and fresh from the country, and some were from other halls of instruction, lt came to pass, as they did enter this land, that they were received with wild welcomings and reioicing by Albert Hollingsworth, who it was decreed should henceforth lead them up the slippery by-ways of knowledge. Now in the Second Year it came to pass that they were received with malicious glee by a certain being called Clarence Cary, who, because of his fierce taste for Eighth Grade blood, did Dounce upon them daily, and did cause them to suffer great things and to hear in their sleep1 Watch me now, l'm trickyl lt so happened in that land to which they had coma was ruled over by one known as Dorothy Duke Ellis, a teacher of much wisdom, and in the third year, she spake unto them, saying Co, gather ye tin cans, and bring unto me, that we may be named w nner and shall reap the grand prize thereof And, lo' lt was so that they did have the greatest store of tin, and there was much reioicing. Now, in the fourth year of their stay in this land, they were received into the custody of a famed wizard of mathematics, who it was decreed, should teach them all about finding the unknown factor called And in her earnestness to give knowledge to the seekers thereof, she did cry out often and loud, Now, folks, we'll have no horseplay And she did rule with an iron hand, and kept order. lt came to pass in the fifth year, that there was as the instructor of this class, a Maiden l?l of much comeliness, Margaret Powell, only wife of a man of brokerage. And in the year a great cry went up from the ,throats of the greedy class Lol lf it doth happen that we are to graduate after another year, it appeareth that there is much need of many dollars wherewith to provide the song and dance thereof And lol Creat crowds did come to this feast, and they called its name a lunior-Senior Party Now th s, the last year in the history of this great and wonderful class of Seven and Forty, has been one of much hard labor, and but little resting by the wayside, for preparations have been making ready for them to take their final departure from the land Now in this last year it was their good fortune to have again for their leader Margaret Powell For verily had this lady studied her Macbeth be long and faithfully, lWoe were theyll So it has come to pass that of the seven and sixty that entered this land in two-and-forty only eight and forty will graduate. Now I say unto you, they must depart thence to go each a separate way to lands they know not of, to do, they know not what And now may the blessings that ever attend the noble and good and true, follow and abide with us, each and all, now and forevermore, DOROTHY EAST
