R3 Q55 Glenbrook's fifth annual Homecoming weekend began on Thursday night, October l7, with a tremendous bonfire and the announcement of the queen and her court. The prevailing wet weather failed to dampen the spirit and enthusiasm of the Glenbrook student body. Friday night, the enthusiasm of the night before remained with the crowd as they cheered the Varsity Team to an easy 43-13 win over Elmwood Park. Halftime activities were highlighted by the GHS Marching Band under the direction of Mr. Smith and the twirlers, Phyllis Han- son and Valerie Smith. Plans for this year included the Home- coming Game, the Awards Assembly, the Christmas Concert, the Spring Music Assembly, and the Spring Concert. Harold Smith, Band Director, has done a magnificent job of conducting a group of people so unfamiliar to him. The band consists of 70 advanced band members and 30 beginning intermediate students. Twenty of the advanced students are freshmen. The beginning intermediate students are constantly challenging the advanced band members for their band posi- tions which they receive according to their ability. Within the Concert Band is a Pep Band and a German Band. The Pep Band plays for home basketball games and pep rallies. The German Band entertains at small gatherings. Page
