Glenbrook had o total of l7l points for the sea- son, while their opponents scored only l4 points. Opposing coaches considered the team a big and hard running squad. when they beat Zion-Benton's Junior Varsity Squad 45 to 7. The 1957 team was led by co-captains Greg Slet- teland and Orrin Rugen. lt is believed that these boys will have much to add to the 1958 Varsity Squad. FROSH. The team got off to a difficult start when North Chicago won the opener, l9 to l2. Glen- brook started the season with an inexperienced varsity team while North Chicago had most of their team back from the year before. lt was difficult to go into the first game of the sea- son as the number one team in the state with a record of 26 games without defeat. Glenbrook had not been defeated since l953. The i957 edition of the Spartans showed great character in rebounding from this opening loss and winning the rest of the games of the season. Glenbrook's offense was not up to par in the North Chicago game nor in the first half of the Aurora game, but starting with the second half of the Aurora game, the boys began to roll. While Glenbrook's offense was a little slow in get- ting going, the defense was great all year. Seniors Jerry Becker, Al Keefer, Don Nicoll, Don Palmer, and Dick Ulbricht were elected to the All-Con- ference Team. Al Keefer was elected Most Valuable Player on the Spartan Squad. Pete Knoop and Bill Schmadebeck were elected next year's captains. Page ll
