The Girls' Athletic Association offered its opportuni- ties to a record-high number of 3ll girls in T953-54. The schedule consisted of indoor sports: badminton, basketball, bowling, volleyball, and tumbling, and outside activities: field hockey, baseball, and horseback riding. To acquaint new Glenbardians with the cIub's program, a frosh play day was offered. Leaders and committee members became further informed at the annual picnic. Among its other activities, G. A. A. entered a Home- coming float entitled Bards Go Up As Cards Go Down and sponsored an informal dance, Harbor Lights . Following these events were the leaders' co-ed night and the Dad and Daughter Banquet. At the banquet, the honor blanket was awarded to the most athletic senior girl. Two of the monthly business meetings featured initia- tion and movies on bowling. ln December a student directory was published and sold as a money-raising proiect. As of this year, a new point system has been intro- duced, The points are accumulated by participation in sports and refereeing. The first local award, class numerals, is obtained by earning 75 points. Members are eligible for the green G , the second local award, with an accumulation of T50 points, and the first state award, the navy I , with 225 points. Seniors who have earned 300 points or more are given the final award, the Illinois map emblem. This year's council was headed by Barbara Lussie, president. She was assisted by Judy Archibald, vice- president, Diane f Dinie D Hobbet, secretary-treasurer, Pam Dexter, ways and means chairman, Barbara Fowler, art chairman, Barbara Hanson, membership chairman, Margaret i Mudgie J Knowles, program chairman, and Judie Donaldson, Susan i Suz l Chal- berg, Ruth Patch, and Judi Pettigrew, sports chairmen. At this October Recognition Ceremony, the new members, clad in family coats, hats, sweaters, and skirts, took part in their first service proiect. The extra layer of clothing they had worn for initiation was peeled off and sent to Korea to aid war orphans. In November Dr. Carl A. Soule, with colored slides, explained the function of the U. N. to the Y-Teeners. Later in the month, the freshmen and sophomores elected Diane Tompkins and Judy Johnson as their presidents. Working with Hi-Y, Y-Teens staged the Christmas Candlelight Service in December. Again combining forces, the two groups produced the annual Heart Hop in February. Other proiects included visiting hospitals and chil- dren's homes, scavengering for canned goods for needy families, and knitting children's apparel for distribution by Junior Red Cross. The annual style show, presented by Ollswang's of Elmhurst, and a carnival highlighted the spring activities. Y-Teens service pins were awarded to deserving workers at the Mother-Daughter Banquet held in April. The installation of the 1954-55 officers climaxed the banquet. Leading the year's activities were Judy Royer, presi- dent, Judy Knaak, vice-president, Nancie Schmidt, secretary, Nancy Lee, treasurer, Carole Fricke, ways and means chairman, Carol Waring, art chairman, Gerry Rader, program chairman: Ruth Budoff, service chairman, Carole Castello, membership chairman, and Sandi Payment, social chairman.
