li L.. -1-M. '5- 'QW Field Events Prove Decisive Led by David Serrano, the field events proved decisive in many a meet for the Wilson team in 1977. Serrano scaled a school record in 42'7 in the triple iump, a team leading l9'l I in the long iump and a fine 5'8 high iump in aiding the Wildcat cause. Kent Miller provided adequate back-up in the horizontal iumps, while Mark Moritz and Paul Carroll gave the team a dependable pair of six foot high iumpers. The pole vault was another-strong event, boasting a trio of 1 1'6 vaulters. Pat Hayes l12'6 J, Rick Holt ll l'6 J and Ralph Schwerber ll l'6 j turned in strong performances week after week. Brian Buettner in the discus and Tom Odgers in the shot put added valuable points to the teams effort in an otherwise weak year for the weightmen. ' The Wildcats' field event dominance doesn't stop on the varsity level, however, as several superior marks have been recorded on the lower levels. Caesar Jara has performed spectacularly inthe pole vault, while Victor Williams and Steve Barba have constantly cleared 5'2 in the high iump. Steve Juarez, Anthony Parmirez and Tim Harmon could be counted on for strong efforts in the throwing events while leapers Steve Caddick, Don McCoy, Robert Glasco and Dave Yount rounded out the field event competitors. ng, F mm 'i'

Joe D'Amato's 4:59 mile led all competitors in that event, while Mike Cahow and Gabe Hernandez turned in excellent performances in the two mile. Several bright new stars arose this season on the Frosh-Soph level. Bob Golenor and Mark Weiner turned in fast half mile marks to compliment the solid times in the mile of Luis Ordonez and Jim Cubillas.
