Wildcats Surprise Leagueg 1 0- As the league started all the teams in the Sierra League were evenly matched. The Wildcats opened with five consecutive wins over Edgewood, Glendora, West Covina, South Hills, and La Puente but dropped the next game to Covina in overtime by two points. The Wildcats then fell to Los Altos by five points to end the first round of play. The second round was a repeat of the first with Los Altos and Covina tying for first in the League and the Wildcats taking third and being invited to the CIF playoffs. This season the Wildcat fans have seen great bas- ketball from the Wilson Cagers. After four years Coach Fred Miller brings the team to CIF action. The entire starting lineup, Phil Flores, Mike Fernandez, Dion King, Earl Williams, and Clarence Hawkins, was nominated for High School All American. Much of our success can be credited to the encour- aging enthusiasm of the crowds. Few games went by without that certain group, under the leadership of Frank Michinock, yelling and cheering until they were unable to talk. The all-out spirit and pure enthusiasm they brought out in the fans surely encouraged our team into the playoffs.
