Sierra Lea ue Champs Wilson's cross country has a very strong team. School workouts started September 7, but most runners ran all summer. Some ran on trails 'up in the hills for a constant hour twice a day. Others were able to push themselves to run a hundred miles a week. School work-outs consisted of twenty quarters, an equal of five miles daily. The Varsity team usually will run together and try to get the slower runners to stay up front so they will learn how to keep pace with the quicker ones. The Cats made a great showing at Mount SAC as they placed three runnersjn the top ten, making all Sierra League first and 2nd teams. The charge was led by senior, Kevin Baxter and senior co-captain, Greg Winters in times of 10:35 ischool recordi and 10:42 respectively. They placed fifth and sixth overall followed by a super sophomore, Steve Cubillias in 10:48, placing ninth overall. Tom Robbins placed highly in thirteenth with a iunior record of 10:57. These performances plus Bobby Golenors 23rd place finish clinched the Sierra League Varsity Cross Country title! During the CIF Pre-lims the Cats had a very good race, good enough to gain the finals. The team was led by Greg Winters at 10:37, and Kevin Baxter right behind him with a 10:39. Tom Robbins came in 30th with 'Steve Cabillias'31 st, running at 1 1 :OO min., each, added with Bob GoIenor's strong 43rd place finish, put the Cats in 5th place in the fastest heat of the day. During the CIF Finals the Cats' squad had to run against the best cross-country teams in Southern California. Varsity posted an excellent team time of 54:49 at the tough Mount SAC course to place 8th overall in CIF. They proved how good they really were. The Media and other sierra league teams rated Wilson fourth place, however, with great determination, spirit and good attitudes, not to mention the skill, the Wildcats came out number one!!!

J. V. Stars Contribute To Varsity's Success This year's J.V. cross country team started out to a fantastic beginning. ln fact the boys on the team were so good that half of them were placed on the Varsity team. After that the remaining J.V. team went into decline, losing all their following meets.
