Smash Musical Rev - The Vocal Music Department's play this year was the off Broadway hit Anything Goes, with music by Cole Porter. The comedy!musical's debut was March 24, 25 and 26 at the Hudson Auditorium. The story takes place in the 20's aboard a ship sailing for England where Sir Evelyn Oakley Uim Foxenj and Miss Hope Harcourt lVenetia Ricchioj will be married. Once on board Hope meets an old friend, Billy Crocker lGreg Mowryj, and they tall instantly in love. Meanwhile Sir Evelyn meets the former evangelist turned bar owner and singer Reno Sweeney lLynn Cosseyl and the plot thickens. As the story continues, things for Hope are being complicated by her overbearing mother, Mrs. W. T. Harcourt iPam Soltersj, and Billy is busy trying to avoid the purser and his bass Mr. Elisha J. Whitney lDavid Bollenl, Mrs. Harcourt and trying to see Hope, also. Also, aboard ship is public enemy number 13, Moonfcice Martin lLennie Linki and his gangster girlfriend, Bonnie ll.aura Gottoi. Moonfoce becomes BiIly's friend and helps him with anything he needs - passport, money, clothes and ticket, However, the ticket he gets him belongs to Snake-eyes Johnson, Public Enemy Number One. Now more problems as he tries to disguise himself from everyone. But then he is discovered and he is made the ship's hero! Finally everything works out so that Reno and Sir Evelyn, and Billy and Hope get married. It even looks like Mrs. W. T. Harcourt and Mr. Whitney are going to get together. This all takes place to such great songs as Take me back to Manhattan, Friendship, You're the Top and Anything Goes plus a million great iokes. This was a play to remember thanks to the work and imagination ofthe Vocal Music Department, Mr. Leonard Deters' patience and time for directing the musical and the great music of Mr. Gil Adams and the Wilson Stage Band.
