They started their Sophomore year off with Q Class Party, which was held in October. Everyone who attended had a very enyoyable evening. The next date of major importance that year was their prom on March 9. They selected as their theme, Over the Rainbow, which proved to be a beautiful setting. The many couples had a wonderful night dancing to the music of Price Dowdy's orchestra. This is one evening they'll always remember from their Sophomore year, They started to build up their treasury selling greeting cards, and having cake bakes. Besides these money-making projects, they also held Cr dance which was very successful. OH MCIY 31. lhe Class went O11 Cl picnic to Lenape Park. This festive occasion was the closing event of their Sophomore social calendar, They began their lunior year with the election of their class officers. George Corner, who is Vice-President of the Student Council, and also a basketball and football player, was elect- ed as their new President. Bob Fulton was selected to be Vice-President, and Nancy Farquhar- son, a member of the band, was re-elected as Secretary. The Treasurer's duties were given to Betty Hill, a member of the Honor Society and an active hockey player. Charles Walker is their Sergeant-at-Arms. On February 29, they held their party, which was a big success, and in April they had their Prom. We hope everyone who attended had a wonderful time. In the beginning of the year, they began selling magazine subscriptions for the Curtis Publishing Company. This added a great deal to their treasury, because they were very suc- cessful in selling them. They also held three cake bakes during the year. Each home-room was responsible for sponsoring one for the class. During the summer, the luniors held Saturday night dances that were chaperoned by the parents of the class members, and during the year they held several more successful ones. We would like to mention a few of the many celebrities of the lunior Class. A few of them are Verna Canon, with a talented voice, Ierry lurosky, the trumpeter, Lee Davis and loe Martin, the popular comic team, and Harry Sinex, a wonderful accordianist. We are sure these luniors are going to have a successful Senior year because of the terrific pace they have taken so far. We wish them lots of luck in all they do. 7? QI K ' .4 'R Y tn. :IM nf' CHIEFS OF THE MOHAWK TRIBE Left to Right: lst Row - Io Ann Savage. 2nd Row - Norman Pitts, Iohn Kane, Carmen Leto. Grd Row: - Mrs Komarnicki, Nancy Devereaux, Mr. Fricker Absentee - Richie Branton This year's Sophomore Class is an up and coming one. By the time they reach the top they should have gotten the very best out of their years at Glen-Nor They started off with electing two of the school's finest teachers, Mrs. Komarnicki, and Mr. Fricker, as their class sponsors. Under their direction, the Sophs are proving to every one that they are very efficient business people Their first event was a cake bake on October 18. This was a very successful affair. The following night they had their first big social of the year, their class party. There were enough songs, girls, and cider to provide a wonderful night for everyone to remember In the beginning of the year they sold hand-made neck ribbons, different types of pins and earrings, and place cards. These cute novelties were made by the members of the class under the supervision of Mrs. Komarnicki Their most important social of the year, which of course was their prom, was held on March 9. Being their first formal dance, it was anticipated with excitement by everyone. We hope they can put it down in their memory book as the nicest evening they ever had. Another big event for them was their class trip. They were planning to have lots of fun on a day trip to Hershey and Harrisburg. We don't know how it was, but of course we hope they en- joyed it. Before we go any further, we think you should know who their class officers are, be- cause they are the ones who played a big part in organizing and helping to make these events possible. Iohn Kane is their President, Richard Branton, their Vice-President, Io Ann Savage, Secretary, Nancy Devereaux the Treasurer. and Norman Pitts, Carmen Leto, and loe Bayle their Sergeant at Arms. Every Variety Show, Concert, and musical program is well represented with a few talent- ed stars from the Sophomore Class. Barbara Henry, a tricky toe dancer is always on the pro- gram. She has appeared on Paul Whiteman's television show, the Origional Amateur Hour, and lots of other local T. V. shows. Donald Chocker, Glen-Nor's favorite contortionist is another familiar figure around this area. Dot Ramos, with her sweet voice, is becoming one of the most popular singers at Glen-Nor. lf these swell kids keep up the pace they've set this year, they are sure to make a suc- cess of their next two years. L 'Kgs , XXY ANNUAL STAFF BRAIN TRUST AT WORK TSLJZ,-f J S 5 1R00 01 PLAY The Senior Ciass presented its play entitled Every Family Has One , written by George Batson, on November 31 and Decem- ber 1, 1951. Mr. Siegel, the director, worked very hard to make the play the success that it was. The cast included: Pat Algard, Carol Bailey, Margaret Del Giorno, Doreen Dimmitt, Iune Haeberle, Robert Love, Iames Morrison, Richard Raup, Patsy Roessner, Ted Shickley, Alice Stevenson and David Wilson. The plot of this intriguing little play is about how one family, the Reardone tried to arrange a marriage between their daughter, Marcia, and Sherwin Parker. The story unfolds and it is revealed that Marcia is in love with Todd Galloway. The story continues: in the last act many problems are solved and Marcia and Todd are together again. All who saw the play agreed that it was a smashing success. ii ill :1e.,ifl.,gf 1 ,f Q 53 Zissifgg If figgfl. y M 5 E 51 'fy . 1 Q ' K Q, ' . vi 1 x H al' -- ,F ' 1' ,, in - , THE CHIEFTAIN STAFF The Chreftam Staff proudly presents the 1952 Chreftarn wh1ch we consrder to be Glen Nor s best yearbook We thrnk you would hke to know someth1ng about the staff that has worked so bard to complete the 1952 Chreitarn so we shall tell you a llttle about each The sponsor of the Chleftarn IS Mr Wert who teaches Enghsh m hrs spare trme The art work rs ably drrected by Mrs Komarnlckr Between them they have managed to strarghten out most of the drfhcultres The edrtor of the 1952 Chreftam rs Pat Algard and the busr ness manager rs Manon Davrs Manon who 1S an outstandrng student takes care ot all money matters for the Chreftarn The Ad manager rs that well known man about town Bob DePaul Bob and hrs assrstant the one and only Book Hopkrns have rarsed more money than any other ad manager 1n the past has done You also have them to thank for preventrng a r1se rn pnce for the Chreftam The g1rl who took your subscnptron 15 Marlene Kearney Certarnly no crrculatron manager ever gave better speeches than Marlene who rs one of the nrcest as well as brarnrest senrors You can easrly see the marvelous job our class edrtor Cynthra Yeaman has done In her work for the Chreftarn she has proven herself both wrtty and wrse Another outstandrng edrtor IS Mary Graham Mary IS our able feature edrtor WERT Advlsor KOMARNICKI Art Advisor ALGARD Edltor Row 1 P Aglard, C Yeaman Row 2 J 'I-Ioward, M Kearney, R DePau1,M Davrs Row 3 L MacFar1and, S Fenner, MGraham, T Shxckley Row 4 J Fulton N Yost, E Cogg1n,D Bosacco Row 5 E Brown, B Hopk1ns,R Love, C Hughes 36 1 - 1 . . Members are elected by the faculty upon the basis of their qualifications in scholarship, leadership. character, and service. The new members are announced at a spec- ial assembly in the spring, which is followed by a tea given for the members and their parents. The symbol of the society is a flaming torch set in a keystone for the senior society, and the torch alone for the junior society. Jesse. l UN IOR HIGH FOOTBALL Composed of seventh, eighth cmd ninth grade boys, this team was highly successful last year. Coach Wharton Hirst did a good job of getting the team together and teaching the boys the fundamentals of football and good sportmanship. Every day during the football season, the boys would be on the field or at the tackling dummy, having their faults pointed out by the coach. Congratulations are extended to Mr. Hirst for developing the first junior high team at Glen-Nor and doing such a good job of it. The Captain of the team this year was Dick Thompson, preceded by Iohn Ferguson. NEWSPAPER CLUB Last year this club printed the first success- ful newspaper of Glen-Nor. Officially called Indian Echoes , one must be quick to purchase at printing time for they are quickly sold out. Although the price was raised from 3 cents to 5 cents, it did not affect its popularity. This publication covers all the happenings and activities at Glen-Nor plus the staff's added comments in conditions at Glen-Nor. This club functions under Mrs. Parkes who is the spon- sor and Anne Rivell who is the editor. ROD AND GUN CLUB Every Monday night, these boys can be found practicing at the Glenolden Legion with their director, Mr. Geno. On this team are some very good sharpshooters, as is evidenced by the results of matches with other schools. They have produced a record Glen-Nor can be proud to own. Their activities are not restricted to gunning, however. ln the spring they pull out their rods and reels and take to the stream. Their rifles are supplied by the army, and are carefully taken care of. Their practicing range was built by the members themselves. They are also members of the National Rifle Association. Their president this year is Albert Vollmer. Row one - J. Paulson. D. Connerly, Row Two -- H. Rougeau, D. Jackson, L. Kelly, J. Keesey, D. David- son, A. Fulton, R. Ehrie. Row Three - R. Sides, F. The best known and most important of all the musi- I I cal organizations in Glen-Nor is the band. - Unde r the superlative direction of Mr. Marlin R. f O'Neal, the band continues to flourish despite the crip- A pling effect of each graduation day. Each year many members graduate, but there are always other capable xx persons to take their places. At the end of their senior year, the senior members of the band are awarded sweaters, gold keys, and band letters. There are also four special awards. 'l' wo of these awards are presented to the outstanding boy and girl members on the basis of musical ability, usefulness, faithfulness and leadership. The other two awards go to the outstanding majorette and colorguard. The persons who receive these awards are voted for by the whole band at the end of the year. For the past 4 years, the Glen-Nor band has played in the Cultural Olympics which are held at the Univer- MR- 0'NEAL sity of Pennsylvania in November and for three of those years the Glen-Nor band has received the highest rating possible. Atherholt, E. Miekley, C. Leto, N. Pitts, B. Love, W. Baxter, G. Corner. ROW 2 - L. to R. J. Kane, R. Branbon, D. Averill, D. Bosacco. With only three returning starters, halfback Dave Bosacco, tackle Ernie Miekley, and guard Bob Love, Coaches Bill Glenn and Frank Geno had a big job to do before their first game. Midway through August a large number of the squad headed off to Camp Nik-O-Mahs to prepare for a big season. Three weeks after the start of school a team of ex-jayvees, varsity letter winners, and veteran starters came up against an experienced Clifton Heights squad. The better trained Indian team came out on top 8-0. First game jitters were over when the Indians met the Owls of Sharon Hill. The powerful running offense headed by backs, Dave Bosacco, Dave Averill and Richie Branton ran up an 19-6 victory, the first in many years. The next three games proved the need for experience as the Indians took it on the chin from Eddystone, Prospect Park, and Swarthmore. . The Collingdale game was played on a Monday but it proved to be a Blue Monday. The Indians put up a good battle all the way, but came out on the short side of an 18-6 score. Next week the county champs from Upper Chichester came up the hill to give the Indians a good battle. The Indians' line play led by Ernie Miekley, George Atherholt, George Cornor and Bob Love did not have quite enough to stop the champs. After longing for a win after five defeats, Glen-Nor scored one at the hands of Nether Providence. Leto's big toe and Kane's right arm proved their worth in a 20-19 decision. The turkey day game, the last of the season proved the end of many football careers at Glen-Nor. On the short end of a 25-12 score those boys who finished their careers included co-captains Miekley and Bosacco, Atherholt, Love, Bailey, Ruprecht and Schliefer . 4 Y x 25 .. , fl 1 'mf 1 I , J A .--G Result ot Glen-Nor 8 18 0 7 0 6 0 20 12 I I J -4.
