Text from Pages 1 - 124 of the 1973 volume:

‘‘To every THING there is a SEASON and a time to every purpose under the heaven. Ecclesiastes 3:1 FALL is the beginning of school life, especially for a Freshmen class. Students are rudely pushed into a rigorous schedule of classes with cross country, football, Homecoming and Sadie Hawkins to brighten the routine. WINTER brings snow and cold. Sophomore memories of fall have been coated with light fluff. Basketball games and wrestling meets are in abundance and the Ski Club plans their weekly treks to TimberLee. SPRING is a season of anticipation for Juniors when Prom time rolls around. The sporting events are at an end with track and baseball. Then, of course, there are always the seemingly endless days — full of classes. SUMMER is the Seniors season in which they are free from chains of past education. Most, but not all ties with good ol’ Glen Lake High School in Maple City, Michigan, are broken. 2 Freshmen Fall” Into New Life PEPPLER REALTY, INC. — GLEN ARBOR Peggy Baatz Henry Barnett Ava Blough Tricia Bolton Greg Brice Rod Brubaker Allen Brzezinski DuWayne Brzezinski Howard Burfiend Ken Burritt Kurt Burritt Ken Burton Jim Carmichael Nikki Cate Steve Chase Sharon Cherry Bill Corby Debbie Davis Linda Deering Keith Dennis THE RED PINE RESTAURANT — GLEN ARBOR 6 Art Fredrickson Patti Glazier I Ruth Cokey Cindy Goodrick Dave Grattopp Tim Hackney Jean Henry Chuck Houchins Tim John Debbie Kasmer Randy Lanham Mark Majszak MIKE’S SERVICE ARCO PRODUCTS — CEDAR Barry Mazurek Dwayne Mikowski Ken Narva Brian Neddo Jocelyn Neeley Janice Norconk Gene Novak Marilyn Novak Brad Paul Greg Peplinski Jeff Perfect Ron Petroskey FRANCIS KALENA EXCAVATING BUILDING — MAPLE CITY Aaron Plowman Doug Popa Mark Post Nancy Ray Joe Reece Shelly Richardson The Freshman class quickly fell into routine high school life. A new addition to the Homecoming festivities was the pep rally and bon-fire held the night before the game. Floats were judged at this time. Game day was filled with excitement and fun. A parade throughout the area in- cluded clowns, floats, the GLHS Marching Band and Homecoming royalty. The trophy for the best float was given to the Senior class at half-time ceremonies of the game. Their float theme was Lakers Autumn Win In '72. A Fun-Filled Evening ... Captured! Sadie Hawkins This year's Sadie Hawkins was a success. The music was provided by Passage and everyone enjoyed themselves. The dance was held in the cafeteria which was well dec- orated by the Junior Class. The highlight of the evening was the annual chase which was held in the gym. The marriage ceremo- nies were performed in the lobby by Marryin' Sam, and many par- ticipated in the activity. They marched in the National Cherry Festival held in Traverse City and the Coho Festival in Honor. This year the band performed five times in concert. At these performances, a band member was picked to model the band uniform which they hope to get in the near future. The Northwestern Michigan Conference organized an all-conference band, in which twelve members of Glen Lake's band performed. The concert was held in Onekama, and band members stayed overnight. District Band Festival was held at the Lars Hockstad Auditorium in Traverse City. The Senior High Band received a II rating, much deserved after a year of hard work. Mr. MacNaughton enjoyed directing the Brethren High School Band during an exchange concert at Glen Lake. 30 SENIOR HIGH BAND. In fact, 3 out of their 5 scheduled matches were rained out. Out of the matches played, however, the team won one. At the Regionals, held at Sugar Loaf, Glen Lake came in fourth. Tennis is on the rise at Glen Lake, and is sure to be come a sanctioned sport in a few years. Girls’ Sports on the Move The Girls' Athletic As- sociation had a great year with Miss Buell leading the way. The girls competed in track and volleyball. The girls' basketball team won all of their games by sub- stantial scores, hopefully, leading to a Varsity girls' basketball team next year. The Varsity and JV Cheerleaders were constantly busy preparing skits for pep rallies and pom-pom rou- tines for their superb performances at football and bas- ketball games. Much spirit was raised at sporting events to back the Laker teams throughout the season. VARSITY CHEERLEADERS. Noreen Fleis, Cheryl Czerniak, Peggy Lanham, Kathi Flaska, Jacky Wilcox, Debbie Wepking. 102 Miss Cathy Buell (CENTER) joins in on m Physical Education Exercise for Body and Mind The teaching of basic gymnastics by MISS BUELL and MR. HILTON added new interest to the gym classes. This new activity was made possible when the physical education department acquired a balance beam, uneven parallel bars and a trampoline. p f|r ft fni' _ — any activities in the girls physical education classes.
