SMILES C In the annual Science Fair Exhibition, John Miller was awarded first prize at competition in the Glen Lake area. He along with the other winners, proceeded to Traverse City, where he was awarded a trip to Texas and the right to compete in the National Science Fair. Although he did not place there, he gained valuable knowledge for future projects. Other participants in the Science Fair from Glen Lake were: Lloyd W. Gauthier, Chuck Payment, Ed Kirt, Dick Plowman, Tim Barr, Frank Flowers and Ed Waslawski. Mr. Bolton, their capable and patient advisor, encouraged and assisted the boys to their success. We sincerely regret that Mr. Bolton won't be with us next year, but wish him the best of luck in the future. 56 F ‘SUCCESS’ Danny Harriger was awarded first place in the Glen Lake Industrial Arts Fair. Then continuing to the regionals, he again won first place. With his winning table, he went to the state fair in Lansing. His success has encouraged him to build another project for next year. Other participants were: Bill Roush, John Norconk, John Deegan and Bill Ziegler. Mr. Patch helped the boys get their exhibitions ready and encouraged them when necessary. Assemblies Capture Glen Lake hosted a variety of talent this year. These cultural, intellectual, and entertaining pro- grams not only enriched and stimulated our minds but also freed us from sixty minutes of class. One of our last assembly programs featured Mr. Kenneth Goodman, a famous organist who has toured Europe. He entertained the student body with selections from Bach, Beethoven, and Rogers and Hammerstein. To keep us informed on the many advancements of our universe, in and out of the stratosphere, a representative of NASA appeared before the student body. He demonstrated the various skills, techniques and equipment used by the space program. 58 Attention The music of Broadway, brought to Glen Lake by the talented soprano singer Inez Gif- ford, captured the attention of all those present. Fascinating color slides and music of distant places added to her performance. Students were amazed one day to find in- strumentalist Victor Hyde play all four horns at once. He is the owner and master of a collection of various size instruments and played sample pieces on all of them for the assembly. Through the work of our Student Council, Mr. Whittemore from the neighboring Leelanau School gave a talk on poetry. Mr. Whittemore began by reading selections from world-renowned poets and then spiced the latter part of the hour with some poetry of his own. 59 Students Expound Their Talents Mrs. Smith is congratulating two students, Janice Terry and Mary Peck, on their journalistic efforts. They won awards in poetry and journalism, respectively, which will be published in a magazine. The Girls and Boys State Representatives: (L. to R.) Cathy Peplinski, Dan Harriger, and Sally Patterson. They were chosen in the fields of leadership, scholastic ability, sportsmanship, and mental alertness. 60 61 Rhapsody in the Rain, the theme of the Junior-Senior Prom and Banquet, set an evening of eloquence and romance. Music by the dazzling No Names lured the couples and faculty to the dance floor. Sparkle and delight headed the agenda as beautiful young ladies in rainbow colored gowns and dashing young men danced till the midnight hours. Rhapsody in Mr. Baldwin, who has been taking prom pictures for the last few years, shows this bashful young man how to relax and smile. 62 Couples made a grand entrance at the Tra verse City Country Club. the Rain The delicious dinner, the soft lights, and the romantic music made everyone feel happy.
