During the 1961-62 school year the Pep Club has done a wonderful job cheering our sport teams to victory. Although we didn't win them all, our group did a fine job in supporting school spirit and pro- moting good sportsmanship, during all the football, basketball, and baseball games. Let's keep up all the good work kids, and our Pep Club will be better every year. They Led Our Pep Club” 28 During the year the Junior Drama Club presented two Thanksgiving plays entitled Wild Cat Willie Carves and The Turkey. The Student Council was organized under the direction of Mr. Harold Sweeny. Two elected students and the president of each class formed the group. Some of the activities the group were re- sponsible for were the Christmas program, hall monitors, and cheer- leader elections. Under the sponsorship of Mr. Peter Goodell the newspaper staff published On The Spot. The group was responsible for the policies of the paper. Some innovations were the opinion column, gossip column, reports on school activities and creative writing. 29 Band The 1961-62 school year has included the band in many activities. It entertained the students in two assembly programs during the year, and delighted the basketball and football audiences during the half-time. Combined with the band of Leland High School, the Annual Spring Concert was held on May 7 at Glen Lake and May 11 at Leland. On May 9, the two bands made a trip to Boyne City, Michigan and played at the District 2, Spring Band Festival. Under the direction of Mr. Jackson, band students who entered the Solo Ensemble Contest did very well, and came back with number 1 and 2 ratings. 30 STUDENT COUNCIL—F. Lanham, M. Novak, S. Miller, T.
