DEDICATION The LAKER Staff of 1961 is dedicating this yearbook to Mrs. Pierce Stocking. In this small way, we would like to express our appreciation for all the many hours of her own time she has spent helping and guiding our class. Our Senior Play was a good example of her unselfish nature. Words could not fully express our gratitude for her help. So, we would like to say, Thank you, Mrs. Stocking ! Besides marching for the Archery Festival in the fall, it played at one football game and several home bas- Retba'l games, two assembly programs were given for the school. Combined with the band of Leland High School, the annual spring concert was held twice at Glen Lake and Lei and Another annual event included participation in the Massed Band Festival, held in Benzonia. Music students who entered the Solo and Ensemble Contest did very well. In the district contest, the cornet trio including Sis Goodrick, Dave Taghon. and Lauren Rine- hart and flute solo by Tracy Wright, received No. 1 ratings. Both ensemble and solo took No. 2 ratings in state competition. MAJORETTES: Helen Mitkowski. Linda Brazes. Beverly Mazurck, Jill Dechow. Paula Meeuwenberg. Susan Lyon. Lavina Eri ckson. Annual Black Versus White Game: For the past two years it has been the football squad's custom to have a black versus white game. The black team is the upper classmen and white the under classmen. This game also ends the football season for another exciting year. FOOTBALL - - 7 jry -: '■. - • This page sponsored by J. CHEERLEADERS During the past year the cheerleaders have worked hard to support the team and to cheer them on to victory. Although Varsity didn't win the cheerleading trophy this year they did a fine job in promoting good sportsmanship and school spirit. Our Junior Varsity cheerleaders this year have done a fine job of carrying on the tradition of school spirit that Glen Lake has always had. May we always remember these girls among our school's finest representatives. This is the last year for three of the Varsity cheerleaders, Linda Lanham, Rita Wrisley and Carol Schaub. These girls have represented our school as first rate cheer- leaders. As they leave us they aren't taking away the school spirit they are leaving it with us to carry on proudly. JUNIOR VARSITY CHEERLEADERS: Nancy Olsen (captain), Carol Norconk, Jill Dechow, Judy Wooters. JUNIOR HIGH CHEERLEADERS: Shirley Zientek, Susan Lyon (captain), Lavina Erickson, Barbara Stocking.
