Thirty-two young athletes waited expectantly for the first football practice of the Glen Lake Community High School football team. The big day arrived and clad in strange apparel reminiscent of the Gladiators of old, these young men began calisthenics and conditioning exercises basic to their grid-iron education. Day after day this squad worked, sweated and thrived on the spirit and drive to excel in this varsity sport. Thru three scrimmages and four games every one of these boys proved that they could take it and began learning the fundamentals necessary to dish it out. Two hours a day, five days a week for nine weeks these young Lakers competed, banged heads and steadily improved not only in football, but in scholastics, physical development and sportsmanship. A successful season? Immensely. Just ask those who participated. Win or lose we continued to improve, never losing our desire to excel. Keep this in mind: Plato said, The beginning is the most important part of% the work. Well--we've begun.
