S444 Open 706446 Man is weak of himself and of small stature. He stands on a basis, at most for the flattest soled of half a square foot insecurely enough, nevertheless he can use tools, can devise tools. With these the granite mountains melt into light dust before him: he kneads glowing iron as if it were soft pasteg seas are his smooth highways: wind and fire his unwearying steeds. Nowhere do you find him without tools: without tools he is nothing: with tools he is all. Thomas Carlyle Sponsored by BARNETT CONSTRUCTION CO. and RAY MILLER'S REPAIR SHOP

Sendoecwai On April 10th, 1956, at 3:00 P. M. , the sixteen seniors of G. E. H. S. started their long awaited journey to the Ozarks in a very nice bus, with a dr'lverU.eonard Reightmeirj we all liked very much. Mr. and Mrs. Treaster went along as sponsors to look over us. We arrived in Kansas City at 9:00 P. M. and were shown our rooms in the Phillips Hotel. After a bit of freshing up, we ate dinner at the Italian Gardens. The next morning the Seniors toured the General Motors Assembly and the Packing House. Dinner was eaten at the Airport where we watched the big transports, and other planes, land and take off. The morning of the 12th we started our last half of the journey to the Ozarks. We gladly arrived at Kirkwood Lodge at 2:00 P. M. During our stay at Kirkwood there were approximately 160 other Seniors there. Besides the other activities, we went boating and some went swimming, but the main event was in the evening when dancing started at 8:00 and lasted till 11:00, fol- lowed by a Wiener roast and then more dancing. The last nightqsaturdayy we were there, the G. E. H. S. Seniors received their Hillbilly Diploma and had their pictures taken in the group form shown above. During our stay at Kirkwood we went through the Bridal Cave and also to Bagnell Dam where we took a rlde on a cruiser. We left Kirkwood on April 15, homeward bound. We went to church in Sedalia, Missouri. Tired and weary, the group arrived back in Glen Elder at 9:45. It was a wonderful trip which we will never forget.
