He has inspired students with his enthusiastic interest in their well-being. He has taken a major role in supervising a variety of extra-curricular activities. Randolph Foote (------------------------- Randy Foote came to Glen Cove High School from Ixmg Island Lutheran High School in September of this school vear and soon made solid friends. He was a genial and generous young man, whom students and teachers both liked. He'd do anything for you, people said. Outside of school a large part of his life centered on hunting and fishing and on a van which he was rebuilding and customizing. Thinking back, his friends talked of a fort they'd built together a long time ago and of a go-cart which they'd made together. Even when he was in grade school the neighbors called him the Genius , because he could fix anything. Automobile engineering came to fascinate him, but teachers said that his interests were far-reaching. His death in December of this school year saddened everyone who had know n him. J 75 V Once again the Senior Class owes its thanks to Mr. Michael Perrieone, who has guided it through such varied activities as the magazine drive, the senior ball, and the junior — senior girls basketball game. Whether helping us raise money or simply getting us ready to have a good time, Mr. Perricone’s easy manner, patience, and attention to detail have smoothed the way and have made everything more enjoyable. As well as hosting members of the Potsdam New Varsity Big Band, they played at the World Trade Center for the lighting of the Christmas tree, hosted the NYSSMA festival during the spring 1978, spent a week at Star Lake. Drum majorette, Veronica Ranieri, worked w the Band to create music of a fine caliber Ac to help the Band spark school spirit throughout the year. 164 BAND 165 Majorettes The majorettes, under the leadership of Captain Linda Hartje and Co captains Laura Iglesias and Linda Rotunno, provide entertainment during home football games. This year they have added lively dance routines to their already colorful repertoire. 166 Flag Corps A stepping stone to majorettes, the Flag Corps, directed by Mr. Michael Abresch, contributes to the half-time performances of our home football games. Chorus Mr. Howard Wortlv has enjoyed directing the Chorus for many years. This year members spent a week-end in Quebec City. The French Club also participated w the Spanish Club in the trip abroad. New additions to the monthly issues included restaurant reviews, cartoons, music reviews, sports features, and controversial editorials and features. Spanish Club Through various activities the Spanish Club attempts to gain knowledge of the culture of the Spanish speaking world. Freshman Orientation Freshman Orientation once again eased the transition between Middle School Ac the High School for almost 400 freshmen. The Key Club, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Glen Cove, provides good works for our community. Key Club Student Senate Made up of two representatives from every homeroom, the Student Senate is the student governing body of Glen Cose High. They organized the Homecoming festivities (including a bonfire and a dance), hosted visiting students from Souderton, Pa. and gave $765.98 to charity with their combined Thanksgiving and Christmas Drives. The 1979 officers were President Bruce Yuen, Vice-President David Boston, Recording Secretary Joyce Depass. Corresponding Secretary Sue Toffler, and Assistant Treasurer Pete DiChiara. Action Learning Mr. Wilson provides a program of Action learning for students to involve themselves in volunteer work of their choice. 186 Section 33 School spirit is never lacking in Section 33, whose fifty members attend every game they can to cheer on their team. Mimi Burnham and Scott Gottlieb do their best to keep spirit alive and spread it throughout the school. Media Squad There are about a dozen students who have a great deal to do with the delivery of films, filmstrips, and records to the proper classes and who thereby add a little variety to the school day. They work with Mrs. Jean Hempton, the AV-Coordinator and her aide Mrs. Bertha Adamcewicz. 187 Masquers One of the most popular activities in school, Masquers continues to present two plays every year. This year’s fall production was a comedy entitled Ducks and Lovers. Senior Halfback Clyde Higgins rushed for over 1200 yds this season to set a new school record. Eisen Mr. and Mrs. Wessels 243 244 245 246 After our studies, current events, fashion fads, sports, proms, concerts, and simply hanging out were important to us. 247 During our high school years, Glen Cove established Northstage, which is a popular playhouse that provided many of us with jobs. Cherry’s discotheque in Glen Cove grew more successful as the disco craze swept the country. This brought the arrival of outrageous disco fashions. 248 Blue jeans remained the most popular style, but new ideas for wearing them became fashionable. These included designer jeans, denim skirts, and jackets with album covers painted on them. 249 Excellence in sports has been our standard. Both Howard “John John Davis, the 1976 lightweight Olympic champion, and Joe Rizzo, of the Denver Broncos, attended Glen Cove High School. 250 This year’s athletes kept up the standard. Clyde Riggins made all-state in football. Allen “Donny” Seaman made allcounty with our varsity basketball team, which was one of the best high school teams in New York State. 251 I his past year saw a progression of different types of music, including disco, reggae and punk rock. It was a dynamic year for concert goers, who enjoyed such bands as The Grateful Dead, Outlaws, Marshall Tucker, E.L.P., Led Zep, Yes, Billy Joel and Jackson Brown at Nassau Coliseum and Madison Square Garden. 252 1978 was a vear of triumph and turbulence. We witnessed the coming together of the leaders of Egypt and Israel, a visit from the Vice Premier of Communist China, the Yankees' winning the world series, and the 50th anniversary of Mickey Mouse. We also saw the political upheaval of Iran, the death of two popes, and the loss of the presence of Colda Meir, Margaret Mead, John D. Rockefeller, and Keith Moon. 253 ... and as the vears go on, these memories will stay with us.
