A quality that makes all students admire her is the ability to understand young people and their problems. All students that are members of the F. T. A. really owe her a debt of gratitude. She has devoted many long hours of ber time and tal- ents to this organization. So now it is with great pride that the Annual Staff of 1967 dedicates this annualto... Mrs. Eloise Enfield Mr. J. B. Melton 1888-1966 It is notoften in the course of humanevents that you come in contact with a man as outstanding as Mr. J. B. Melton. Because he was a member of the Glen Alpine School Board, he contributed much of his time to promote public education. For all his deeds of kindness, we, the students of Glen Alpine High School shall be forever grateful. Mickie Earley 1948-1966 Not many people at Glen Alpine had the privilege of really knowing Mickie, but for those who did, they know it was a wonderful ex- perience. She always had a kind word and a radiant smile for everyone. Each person who knew her loved her. We, the students of Glen Alpine High School, will always think of her with fondness and miss her greatly. John Ragan, Prop CLASS It has beena long time since I'd seen good ole G. A.; because I hadbeen to New York, where my book HOW TO BEA SUCCESS AT NOTHING has just beenreleased. Now lam backin Turkey Tail country to do a sequel on our Class of '67's reunion. The former Brenda Whitener, one of G. A.'s most famous personages, planned the reunion, and will be our gracious hostess. Main Street has changed tremendously. The city limits now run from the popular resort area, Lake James, through what used to be Carbon City. The first classmates I saw were the professional mountain team knownas the Carbon City Ridge Runners, led by fearless Jack Hyatt and his famous companions, Joe Proctor, Rucker Vance, and its adopted member, David Prit- chard. My first visit was to the famousG. A.circus headquarters near what used to be Lion's Hill. The ringmaster, Gary Abernathy, runs the show quite well with Angie Reep, the high wire artist, as one of the main attractions. Phillip Abernathy has a big fan club, being the circus's most famous clown. H e always gets a big laugh whenever he drives into the ring inhis ''Flap-mobile. Gary Meise moonlights from his mechanical engineering to be the circus strong man in certain shows. Danny Hinceman and his brother Bobby are the daring young men on the flying trapese of the circus. Imagine my surprise when I turnedon the T. V. tosee the brilliant news commentator Dale Brittain, who is ably assisted by that shining wit, Hicks Pollard. The station manager, John Travis, rakes in a fortune from not only these two, but also from his new film beauties Sheila Shelton and Myra Hancock, along with the dazzling comedienne Anna Avery. In addition to the beauties are the famous performers on the stationGAHI-TV Joe Cooper, Charles Costner, David Buchanan, and Rufus Shade, the Barber Shop Quartet. My next stop was at the Hardin and Bennett Engineering Firm. Private secretary Barbara Harrison greeted me, and told methat the company lawyer, Bruce Gale, has had to work hard to incorporate Robert Moses and Benny Leonard as junior partners with the old 'pros' ' Doug Ben- nett and Larry Hardin. I stopped at a chain grocery store and learned that Larry Stillwelland Donald Davis are the . owners. This chain of stores has the best paid bag boys in the nation. Stopping at the maga- zine stand, I picked up a copy of that new magazine, COQUETTES. Larry told me that Blane ‘Watson and Stacy Scott, always known for their literary talent, have gone into partnership in pp COs ai ay SExn0' in forming the new_magazine, COQUETTES, to put PLAYBOY out of business} Bobby Reep, the renowned photographer for the magazine, is operating in the ten-story apartment building owned by Gerald Russ. Among Mr. Reep's most famous models are Beverly Branch and Glenda Fox. Across the street from the grocery store is a large sign, The House of Intelligent Beauty, owned by Cathy Carson, who has made a fortune in the field of cosmetics. Walking farther down the street, I came to the office of the G.A. HERALD TRIBUNE edited by Jill Orders and assisted by Linda Flowers, Wilma Baker, and Sarah Rutherfordas reporters. Here I learned that the nationally read column, ''Dear Ruthie , is written by none other than our own Ruth Powell. It was Ruth who filled me in on all the news of my classmates and Turkey Tails Powell's Health Salon, owned by Jim Powell, does business on a world-wide scale under the direction of Phillip Smith; however, the Powell's rival, Patton's Salon, owned by the former Don- na Carpenter and Brenda Patton and managed by Libby Ewing, does a lot of business, too. 56 realy Oia aye Robert Duckworth and Wayne Shell are the loyal business tycoons of the charter airline service. Susan Rogers and Joyce Wilson are the head airline stewardesses for the exclusive service. Belinda Wilson coaches the only girls' hockey team in the South. Her star goalie is Ann Vines, but not to be forgotten are the ice flashes, Lillian Smith, Virginia Powell, and Linda Low- dermilk. The New Orleans Jazz Band is giving a great performance in town. The leader, Louie Tate, does extremely well, along with Michael Goodman and Jackie Farris. The local army base was ordered out on manuevers by generals Charles Duffey and Donald Powell; so that they could attend the reunion. Sonny Taylor, the Dr. Spock of North Carolina, left his child clinic in the hands of his psy- chiatric assistant, David Berry, who graduatedfrom Duke as G.A.'s first four year All-Ameri- can. Leon Milligan and Libby Beck are the co-owners of the world's only chocolate covered gin- ger-bread man baker. They have a booming export business. Arthur Moseley, owner of America's largest chain of hamburger stands, is stopping by G. A. to inspect the business run by Herbert Surratt, Perry Wallace, and Earl Shade. Dennis Payne and Joe Powell, the famous race drivers, will be at the reunion with their car builders, Ray Conley and Larry Hawkins. Maggie Patton, owner of the world's largest horse racing track, will also be in this area for the reunion. It is rumored that Larry Yancey, New York's chief detective, and Sammy Baldwin, the dis- trict attorney, are going to move back to Turkey Tail. Ralph Orders, pace setter of the high fashion dress industry will be present with his out- standing model Glenda Greer and his best designer Linda Michaels. Sarah Fullwood and Brenda Surratt are co-managers of the local movie theater, where the latest movie, ''Miss Giggles is playing. Governor Jimmy Benfield and his personalsecretary, Phyllis Hensley, are leaving Raleigh for a short while in order to attend the gathering. I was glad to hear that there is stilla storenear the school. Mac Poteat, the new proprietor, has named it Mac's IGA. It is reported that he is planning to run a chair lift to the high school. Teachers Margaretina Caldwell, Linda Surratt and Brenda Wallace will also arrive from California for the reunion. Mike Buckner, Bobby Mangum, and Alan McGalliard, owners of the city's transit system, have a franchise with Winters' Studios for transporting Glenn's scenery used in filming the epic, THE LOVERS. The stars of this production are Jerry Crawley, Bracey Bobbit, Dana Michaels, and Libby Bridges brilliantly directed by Mike Causby. My classmates have really gone far in the worldsince we last saw one another in 1967, and I know they will continue to do so.
