The president of this fabulous fair is Steve Watson, a native of G. A. As we begin our tour of the fair, we will encounter many people with whom we were once very familiar. One of the most outstanding features of the fair is a gigantic turkey--symbolic of Glen Alpine itself. The designing and build- ingof the turkey was engineered by Gerry Davis and James Patton. Dean Powell and Mickey Milligan, both Wall Street Brokers, donated it to the Fair. The Fair is featuring some of the things that G.A. is famous for. The Quarterback Club ' s exhibition is a gigantic football-- one hundred feet in diameter. As one goes on the inside there can be seen pictures of such outstanding players as Steve Black, Gary Causby, and Jerry Johnson. These boys now have their own pro¬ fessional team known as the Cheersome Threesome. Another attraction at the Fair that is very popular with the teenagersis the Radio Station of Tomorrow--station BONG--de- signedby Carroll Pritchard. This station plays popular musicā twenty-four hours a day without any interruptions. The announcer is that ever-loving Malcolm Pingel. Some of the top recording artists are Nancy Buff who sings Do the Turkey Tail Stomp -- Joan Crawley sings The Prejudice Psychiatrist and Ronnie Lane sings The Lazy Man Works. Although the fairgrounds are highly mechanized, nature itself still shines through. The upkeep of the grounds is under the super¬ vision of George Patton, Roby Wilson, and Doug Patton. Transportation to and about the fairgrounds is sponsored by the Happy Mackie Motoring Company owned and operated by those mechanical minded geniuses Kenneth Head, Donald Eply, and Alvin Baker. There are also many rides to enjoy here at the Fair. They were designed by the great electronic engineer Ronnie Mulwee and built by the Spend Thrift Construction Company under the operation of Wayne Harris and Hal Williams, The paintings and designs were done by those internationally known artists Jane Reep and Louise Bollinger. They were assisted by Linda Anderson and Diane Baker. Accidents do happen, but the Fair has employed an efficient medical staff to control these mishaps. Dr. David Long is at the head of this department. He is ably assisted by Wanda Dale, Pat Fowler, and Mary Deaton, all very prominent nurses. During our tour we begin to get a little hungry, so we go into a lush restaurant called Duckworth and Anderson ' s owned and operated by none other than Wayne and Travis. (Their restaurant is located where Rader ' s Stop and Shop was once located.) As we go in the head waiter, Tim Abernathy, escorts us to our table. Just then the lights go out and the floor show begins. The main attraction is Little Egyptā and her attendants, featuring Lynn Pitts as Little Egyptā and Linda Stillwell, Glenda Lane, Linda Pritchard, Sandra Shelton, and Norma Byrd as her attendants. After the floor show, the lights come back on and we recognize many of our former classmates. We see that Janice Johnson is now a secretary in one of the large business firms of New York City. Betty Hastings and Jane Patton have joint ownership in a famous beauty salon in Chicago. Johnny Bennett and Joe Scott are large stockholders in the Volkswagen Company. Diane Leaonard is in the process of writing a book entitled TEN EASY STEPS TO FINDING A DIAMOND IN A POPCORN BOX. Her advisors are Nancy Edwards and Linda Williams. Wanda Presnell has just published her book A TEENAGER ' S BIGGEST PROBLEM: PARENTS. Her advisor was Jane Stamey. That ' s enough gossip for now--The Fair has certainly got plenty of publicity. Allen Garrison, editor of the GLEN ALPINE HIGHLITES, (One of the largest newspaper syndicates in the country) has an efficient staff covering the Fair. Some members of his staff are Raye Smawley, social editor; Linda Chandler, foreign relations editor; Gary Martin, sports editor; and Henrietta Davis who heads the business department. The music at the Fair is sponsored by the Little People ' s Symphony under the direction of Scottie Greer. Some of the sym¬ phony are Philip Payne, Sammy Scott, and Leland Sisk. A big attraction for the girls is the building featuring Fashions of Tomorrow. Mildred Milligan, one of the most popular design¬ ers of our time, is in charge of the clothes that are being modeled. Jo Lynn Franklin and Margie Gwyn are both employed as models for Miss Milligan ' s designs. There were many of our classmates that weren ' t able to attend the Fair this year. Laura Hyatt, who is a coach for the girls professional basketball, the Superettes, is touring Europe. Barbara Kelly and Barbara Benfield, both members of the team, are touring with her. Steve Guimond has just won the Pulitzer Prize for his book entitled THE ZEUGMATIC ZEUGMA. Due to personal appearances throughout the country, he will be unable to attend the Fair. Elaine White is in the process of trying to join the National Guard. (She has been trying since graduation.) Patricia Shaping is so busy keeping up with what is going on in Valdese that she doesn ' t realize that there is even a World ' s Fair going on. Fred Costner, now a Captain in the army, is stationed in Vietnam. Phyllis Beck, Linda McGee, and Jewell Russ have all joined the WAC ' s, but they are going to try to attend the Fair. Patsy Propst and Patsy Childers are both employed at Johnson and Johnson ' s so they definitely won ' t be at the Fair. Carolyn Benfield has been voted as one of the Ten Best Dressed Women of the Year, but she refuses to attend the Fair by saying, I haven ' t a thing to wear. (??) Sherry Hancock and Diane Baker are run¬ ning a nursery. Doris Flowers has just returned from a trip to the moon, and feels that she has had enough excitement for awhile. Candace Barrier, Redith Lowman, and Elaine Cook went along with her as chaperones. (Wonder who chaperoned whom?) Oh well, let ' s continue on with our tour of the Fair. Our last exhibition that we will enter is the Miscellaneous Building. It ' s name describes it completely. We see that Boyd Powell has in¬ vented a new type race car, but is having trouble in getting it on the market. It seems that Richard Herman, David Farris, and Eddie Brittain, the test drivers, are having trouble operating it. Oh well, maybe Jay Taylor, who is President of the Ford Motor Company, will come across a solution. During our tour we could continually hear noises in the back¬ ground. Our guide, Helen Vickers, told us that it was just Betty Eply, Susan Pollard, and Shirley Clark trying out a new mega¬ phone that they are trying to put on the market. Now the neon lights are slowly dimming as a day of the Glen Alpine World ' s Fair ends. We have renewed our acquaintance with many of our old classmates. Each one has boarded a gigantic farris wheel which will take them to their profession in life.
