: NINETEEN HUNDRED AND SIXTY ONE GLEN ALPINE HIGH SCHOOL Glen Alpine, North Carolina Editor-Fred Epeley Business Manager-Alyce Faye Taylor Circulation Manager-Norvin Clontz 3orewovd Glen Alpine High School Glen Alpine, North Carolina Dear Students: This is your 1960-61 Yearbook. It is a chest of memories that will last forever. Each difficult and tiring hour of planning by the staff has been a pleasure. Because we love our school, we try to make everything tops and we hope this year- book will be tops with you. Keep it. Treasure it. And when the time comes for you to march to the strands of Pomp and Circumstance, you can take a real part of Glen Alpine High School with you. ..your yearbook. On Memov How cruelly sweet are the echoes that start When memory plays an old tune on the heart. Dearest Father, watch over our loved one who was called to join You on August 26, 1960. We who knew and loved her here on earth are deeply sorrowed, but we know that You have a special place for her beside You. In losing her, Glen Alpine High School lost a promising student. A devout Christian, Linda had a talent for making friends everywhere and she called no one an enemy. We, the students, will not soon forget this girl who was a school mate and friend. Through our sadness flows an ever-shining star that reminds us of our special friends. We remember Linda especially because she was so... dear to our hearts. 4 Amen for Service To Miss Trudy Thompson, teacher and friend: For integrity, for intelligence, for nobility of character, for accomplishments of mind and spirit; For setting an example of high ideals; For time unselfishly dedicated in the production of the Turkey Tail. For one who has shared our heartaches with sympathy and our happiness with joy; For one who has understood our troubles and problems and has encouraged, taught, and influenced us; and most of all for one who has given us her friendship, the Seniors of 1961 proudly dedicate this, the XIV Volume of the Turkey Tail. May it never fail, Hail to thee our Alma Mater, 7 88 G. A. S. ALL HAIL! ! f m V . We, the seniors of '61, are now the captains of that great ship Education . As fresh- men we launched our ship with the greatest force, ambition. We have set our goals for the highest, have expected the least, and have accepted anything between. We now set sail into a hopeful future. How we use the things we have learned at Glen Alpine High School will determine whether our ship will have good sailing or whether it will fall into destruc- tion on some rocky coast. With our graduation comes the key to the Gate of Opportunity. The things we have been taught in high schoolhave enabledus toreceive that Key more graciously. We seniors have learned the value of good citizenship and sportsmanship, by our social activities. These values will hold us in good stead in the future. As that Wonderful Year 1960-61 comes to an end and we each go our separate ways, let us not forget our Alma Mater and the things we have cherished here. When old friends meet and old times are reminisced, let the foremost thing on our minds and hearts be. Advertising Department I wish to say THANK YOU to those who have helped me in my duties as business manager of the annual. To my teachers, who have been so under standing when excusing me from so many of my classes to work on the annual; to Mr. Young, for his patience with us when requesting permission to go to town for advertisements, and also when giving us the keys and interrupting his work; and foremost, to Miss Thompson, I express my deepest appreciation; without her assistance I would have been lost. To George and Anita, I take this opportunity to say, Thank you for you help and good luck next year!
