District and Regional Champions Again! For the second consecutive year the Glen Allen Panthers were crowned champions of District I] Group II. This gave us the right to play the District | winner for the Eastern Regional Title. This crown was also added to our laurels when we defeated Suffolk High School 19-0 in the Peanut City. The Panthers rolled through an eight game schedule undefeated in annexing the District crown. K. VAUGHAN Tinsley, Dalton and Thacker Around End “All the way—52” Against Falmouth—Precision!! GLEN ALLEN 18—BENEDICTINE 7 Glen Allen made its bow into city competition for the first time. Our entrance was an auspicious one as we defeated the Cadets of Benedictine 18-7. The Panthers drew first blood early in the opening quarter on a pass from Wilson Tinsley to Charles Faber. A long pass from Rhoades to Pugh in the second period put the Cadets ahead 7-6 at half time. Two fourth period scores by Tinsley netted Glen Allen its opening victory 18-7. A stalwart defense placed by co-captain Billy Thacker, Sherwood Frostick, Kenny Vaughan, Robert Fulton and Duke Thacker held the Cadets to a net gain of 44 yards. Glen Allen co-captain Wilson Tinsley was the whole offensive show as he passed for 1 score and ran for the other two. GLEN ALLEN 25—MANCHESTER 6 Using a set of portable lights the Panthers played the first night game ever staged on the school field. Manchester became victim number two on our 1949 schedule as we rolled up a sluggish 25—6 victory. Jackson, Faber, Vaughan and Tinsley scored touchdowns for the Red and Blue. The team failed to exhibit the smooth functioning we saw in the Benedictine game but still had enough power to prevail over the Lancers of Manchester. : GLEN ALLEN 18—JAMES MONROE O Glen Allen evened its 10-year record with James Monroe at 5 and 5 when we trounced the Yellow Jackets 27-0 in Fredericksburg. On defense our team stopped the Monroe attack cold and did not allow the Jackets a firstdown during the third and fourth quarter play. Panther scores were tallied by Tinsley, who went over three times, and Ed Jackson who tallied on a pass from Charles Brandmahl. Frostick Leads—Clinard Follows!! Page Gains Against Suffolk!! [95 ]
