ERNEST PATELLO Left guard 5 10 weighs 160 pounds earned his second letter most improved player on the squad turned out to be a hard striking defensive guard FRANK AMBER Right guard one of the smallest players on the squad reaching 5 6 and tipping the scales at 145 pounds earned his first letter this year always gave his best FRANCIS CONLEY Reserve quarterback who weighs 150 pounds and is 5 6V2 earned his first letter this year hard worker conscientious wanted nothing more than to play as much as he could FOOTBALL SUMMARY JOHNSTOWN-6 GLASSPORT-6 The season s openei was cllmaxed by a 6 6 deadlock Johns own scored Grst after a steady drive which began with the kick oft The pass for the extra paint was knocked down Karnash recovered a fumble at the beginning of the second quarter and the Gladiators started their march Kusserow Tudek and Natalie alternated on line smashes which drove the Johnnles to the one yard line From here Lou took it over The conversion was unsuccessful Both teams played hard the second half with the Glads making 2 scoring threats in the 3rd period that fell short Johns town too made a bid to score In the 4th period but failed CLAIRTON 39 GLASSPORT 7 The Gladiators put up a stiff battle but the opposition was too much The gal lant ball players succumbed to the Bears 37 7 Glassports only tally came in the final period After several passes the Gladiators crossed the Clairton line and the try for an extra point was good HOMESTEAD 13 GLASSPORT I9 In a so called upset the Gladiators defeated the highly favored and previously undefeated Homestead team 20 13 The first period was started by a 60 yard boot by Kusserow to Homestead s 15 They advanced down the field and finally slipped over the first tally Toward the close of the 1st half Glassport took to the air After several passes Karnash took an aerial for our first score lust as the half ended Then Karnash took the second half kick off on the 35 and with perfect blocking by his mates scampered 65 yards for a touchdown In the last 45 seconds Karnash inter cepted to the 22 yard line From there Kusserow passed to Kuffner for the winning touchdown DERRY TOWNSHIP 0 GLASSPORT 24 The opening kick off was fumbled by Karnash but the Gladiators held to take the ball on down Then we went to the Derry six yard line where Kusserow fumbled Early in the 2nd quarter Kuffner recovered a Derry fumble and after four con secutive 1st downs Kusserow went over for a touchdown and the extra point I the 3rd quarter with the ball on our own 32 Kusserow pitched a pass to Karnash for 5 and Ghetian gained 7 more Then Kusserow raced 56 for a touchdown Natalie plunged for the extra point The next touchdowr come when Kusserow passed to Kuftner for 24 yards and then another accurated pass by fullback Lou to Kuffner for the touchdown The Glahlsean 54 I H - - , ,, . . . . - ' I H 1 - - . . . , - I - r , . ,, ,, . . . .
