I For four years Mr William Mays has given of himself his talents and his energies for the betterment of the Class of 1971 Through major dilemmas and mmor crises Mr Mays has always stood by us Whether we needed advice or friendly encouragement he was there ready to guide our footsteps in any way he could He has been a large factor in the success of our prom, our plays, our dances, our trip, and our many fund-raising activities. Mr. Mays is one of the good things we will remember about Glassboro High School long after we have all taken our separate paths in life. The team never failed to thrill spectators with their extraordinary feats of skill and good 'ole' determination. The highlights of the '70-71 sea- son included winning the Christmas Tournament trophy lfor the third time in five years! and handing Washington Township its first defeat. The Glassboro golfers will have the diffi- cult task of following up their cham- pionship with a young, inexperi- enced squad. The only returning let- terman will be captain Doug Hoff- man, who possessed an impressive record last year, and has been im- proving steadily. Although they faced a tumultuous season, they probably will surprise many of their opponents and roll up an outstand- ing record. D. Hoffman W Myers C. Hoffman, D. Hoffman, M. Bowe, L. Geiger, S. Lacrosse Lacrosse is a sport played each spring by the girls of Glassboro High School. Although it's not too widely played more and more schools are joining the established conferences. Lacrosse is a hard, fast game adopted from the North American Indians. The object of the game is to throw or scoop a small rubber ball into the oppos- ing team's goal. Each team consists of 12 players. sk... K. Lainog T. Wackarp A. lurgelis. i .na Q . . .I , HU C Jw T as i C W Ig: ttuurcwll U55 BWJUUES QQLLDU55 Varsity - FRONT ROW: B. Mannino, B. Carter, j. Mr. Toscano's Bulldogs will be defending their Olympic Conference and South jersey Group I Championships this year, and their chances of retaining both of them seem excel- lent. Although several key players from last year's squad are lost through graduation, the '71 team could prove stronger than last year's. The squad includes Senior lettermen Dave Griffith, Lee Knorr, jeff Kozek, jim Lingerfield, George Po- kalo, and joe Scaffidi. The junior lettermen are Brian Carter and Dan Corradetti, and several promising newcomers, ju- niors Steve Puglia, Scott Sammons, and Sophomores Terry McCulley and jeff Sandifer. 1971 promises to be an extremely successful season for the baseball squad. l BasebaH l.V. - FRONT ROW: G. The entire student body has its representation ' in the Glassboro High School Student Council. e n t n C I Each English class elects two representatives who attend the meetings and bring issues back to the class for discussion. Through committees and democratic procedures, these issues are re- searched and brought to the administration for V Q U consideration. Students this year worked with faculty and administration on many important committees, such as curriculum, assemblies, school improvement, and community relations. S The most unique of all educational tools avail- able to the teacher today is television - and we at C-lassboro are fortunate enough to have this facility available to us. Extremely versatile and more economical than film, television can prove to be an invaluable educational tool. Maintained by a staff of competant high school students under the guidance of Mr. Walter Vail, the television system offers educational pro- grams of all types for any grade level. The facility also enables the teacher to prepare his own les- son, and have it video-tapedrecorded to be shown at a later date, or immediately afterward, if desired. The advantages of this are many in number. Also, students seem to feel more re- laxed watching a television program, and televi- sion usually always captures student attention. ROW 1: R. Drobil, B. A fun-filled account of the Crilbreth family of twelve children, it dealt with the problems of family life in the 1920's. Father, a rigid efficiency expert with a loving heart, had definite ideas as to how to run his family -like a factory. He would allow no wasted time in the bathroom, thought silk stock- ings shocking and indecent, and insisted on chap- eroning his daughters on dates. Confusing the matter were a prim old teacher and her word as- sociation test, and an over-enthusiastic male cheerleader. By the end of the play, however, the children achieved some liberation and also a great deal of maturity. Dramatized by Christopher Sergel, this play was based on a true story, from the book by Frank Gilbreth and Elizabeth Gil- breth Carey. Who killed Bill McGinnis? Was it the pharmicist, or the town doctor, or the community business leader? The fire escape railing was broken. Was it an accident, or did someone push him? This is what the students in The Remarkable Incident at Car- son Corners try to prove. They bring much evidence to light, accusing the school janitor of a theft which Bill might have seen. The janitor could have pushed him, but the prominent town leaders are actually the guilty ones. Guilty - because they were too lazy, or too tired, or too negli- gent to do the things they had to do. A great message was contained in our Senior Play, which was written by Kristen Sergei and given on No- vember 6th and 7th, 1970. The stu- dents at Carson Corners proved that we must all work together - or we're nothing. Senior Pla The Remarkable Incident at Car5on'5 Corners Dr. Caldwell .... Mrs. Caldwell . .. Mr. Prince ..... Appropriate be- cause even though our daily pace may be hurried, the amount of literal time cannot change from day to day. Whether you become millionaires or paupers, you all will have the same amount of time to accom- plish your goals, Use your time wisely, time cannot be bought or sold, time cannot be given away nor hoarded, so it must be used. We at Glassboro High hope that we have been instrumental in teaching you to use time. Time for your own personal betterment but even more important time to be used in a posi- tive way for the good of all man kind. Mr. james M. Hoy Principal Administration What shall I do with my life? We are all continually con- fronted by this question, for we want our lives to have direc- tion, purpose, meaning and worth. Each of us in his own way wants desperately to make this world a better place because he has lived in it, and the opportunity to do that may knock at his door any day, in any way. We must pray and study and work, We must keep our vi- sion clear, accept our opportunities, and strive to find our places of service, remembering that each of us will leave be- hind in his world traces of himself, A wise man made this challenging statement: There are no limitations to what you can do, except the limitations in your mind. Don't think you cannot! Think you can! And you will! Remember: The coward never starts The weak never finish The strong win the race, May each of you have the courage to be strong. Mr. E. Warren Grodotzke Assistant Principal Mr. E. Warren Grodotzke, Assistant Principal Mr. james Hoy, Principal What has your education meant to you? Has it been a series of rewarding, stimulating experiences designed to assist you in arriving at your own conclusions? What America needs most is a group of well educated citizens who are open-minded and willing and able to examine the issues. We must develop an honest sincere concern for the problems of our fellowman coupled with a desire to solve our problems through common effort. We hope that your years at G. H. S. have been happy and productive. As you look back upon your experiences I trust that you can recall many pleasant experiences - a thrilling football victory, an exciting prom, the joy of many friendships. May your future hold many challenges and rewards. As you begin another phase of your education remember your responsibilities to your nation, state, community, and your self. Mays Advi sor l Carrozzino, Treasurer, R. Schmidt, President, We, the class of 1971, have just completed four of the most important years of our lives. ln these years we have formed a foundation of responsibility and knowl- edge upon which we can build our future. For many of us our future means college: to others, it is a beginning in industry or military service. At this time l would like to thank all of the faculty and students that made the past four years at Glassboro High School the educational and personal experience that it has been for all of us. I have enjoyed serving the class as president and hope that my efforts have shown that I appreciated the honor given me.
