We see them both, schools and trees, as something spreading and per- manentg beautiful and protectiveg rooted in the common soil and towering into free air.

APPRECIATIO Anytime progress is found in a school system, one also finds a leader with vision who has translated his thought and knowledge into action. Labor- ing tirelessly and enthusiastically at his task, such a leader has brought con- tinuous administrative, curricular and building expansion to the Lynchburg School System since assuming his position in 1945. Our own E. C. Glass High School was built during his administration. His wisdom, wit, and easy manner have always been accompanied by understanding, good counsel and drive for perfection. There is not an audience which has not been amused by his humor expressed in unique Georgian dialectg not a teacher who has not benefited from his deep interest. With deep appreciation and warm affection, we are proud to dedicate our 1961 Annual to Dr. Paul M. Munro, in recognition of sixteen years of outstand- ing service as Superintendent of Lynchburg City Schools.
