1944 Senior Diary September 8-School started today, and were going to make our senior year the best yet. September 19-The City of LjllIt'1lfIll'l'jl, a huge Flying Fortress, was christened today. Our school had 38,337.25 interest in it. October 6-G. C. McGehce, chairman of the Senior Council, .announced our class officers in assembly this morning. They are: President, lNalter Vannoy: Vice-President, Betty Marting Secretary, june Driskillg Treasurer, Dorothy White. We were relieved to hear our be enjoyed. October 15- A Bargain is Barbara Hudson, was October 27 and 28-School stayed around to help President say that most of the senior privileges would still a Bargain, a hilarious comedy starring Haddon Snead and presented tonight at 8:15. One of the best, we'd say. was dismissed early these two days, but some of us seniors Uncle Sam with his grub rationing. November 5-At last-Senior Day! Ours started oft in a more serious vein when we heard Mr. Lawrence Bernhardt, concert pianist, and Mr. John Wranek, tenor, in a delightful program. But we really let down our hair in the assembly reigned over by King T. C. McDow and Queen Selene Crews and highlighted by a modern version of Romeo and Julie! and a Court of Love presided over by Uncle Charlie. December 3- The Secret Door, a mystery thriller directed by Dorothy Scott, was pre- sented as our annual fall play tonight. December 9-Our Senior Banquet was a great success, thanks to a capable committee headed by June Driskill. After an inspiring talk by Rev. D. D. Holt, we completed the evening with dancing to music furnished by Mr. Connelly. December 15-In spite of bitter cold weather, we reached our goal of 300,000 pounds of paper in the drive to buy equipment for a new athletic field. Thanks are in order for the Lynchburg firms which loaned us trucks. January 5-Our basketball season started off with a bang when we defeated the Lynch- burg College Air Cadets 54-24. Here's wishing our team success in the future. January 17-The officers of Honor League were elected today. They are: President, John Lee Giles, Vice-President, C. P. Minnickg Secretary, Harold Litchford. February 25-Oh, unhappy day! In spite of the grand fight our boys put up, Salem defeated us 40-32 to end our basketball season. March 23-Twenty-two new members were elected to the Quill and Scroll today. Betty Morris, McHenry Peters, Frances Robertson, and Harold Litchford are in the spot- light as officers. March 27-Athletic letters were presented to the basketball team and cheerleaders in assembly this morning. Congratulations to both on a very successful season. March 29-At an assembly today National Honor Society honors were bestowed on our top-ranking seniors. Haddon Snead, VValter Vannoy, Frances Robertson and Harold Reid were given high places as officers. March 31-The beloved play, Little VVomen, was presented at Junior High this evening at 8:15. Bob Gober and Jacqueline Chopra were in the principal roles, and the play was a great success. Uncle Charlie announced today that our Senior Play would be Nothing But the Truth. Buddy McDonald and Ella Mae Drinkard have the leads, and it promises to be a grand play. April Z6-The music department presented a concert at R. E. Lee Junior' High tonight. It couldn't take the place of the opera, but it was the best of its kind we've ever SCCH. 9-Our Senior year came to an end today. It is with sadness in our hearts that we bid goodbye to old Glass High, leaving behind the result of four years' work and taking in our hearts the memories of achievements and happiness that have filled our high school lives.
