Reynolds, 57 1944 Sophomore Boners VVe sincerely -regret being forced to use a page of our expensive, classy book for the correction of the conduct of the lowly sophomores 5 but we otherwise deeply fear for the future of Glass High. First, we must inform you, Dear Innocent Little Sophomores, that the easiest way to bring a pencil to school is to carry it in your hand, not to roll it up the steps with the aid of that projection on your face known as the nose. Also, you should remember to open all doors for the Great Ones, the Seniors, and to bow low in respect to their age and dignity. VVe are deeply touched to find that a handful of Sophs failed to be escorted to the great architectural structure, Detention Hall, but these few shouldn't have cried. for the hall was built to house and protect those notorious ones in our midst. The previous, innocent little ones, took Leap Year so seriously that if they had their way all the Seniors would be lawfully wedded. It's so hard to disillusion the adorable darlings QFJ, but the Seniors just can't be bothered with the antics of ones so young. We recognized a slight attempt Cafter diligent coachingj of good manners by the Infants, but the poor things forgot that Senior boys and masculine teachers should be addressed as Sir, not as Madam. The Sophs just lost pounds Cmost of them need toj worrying over their schedules. Mr. Isley, in allowing them to make out their own schedules, overlooked the fact that they couldn't read-most of them ended up in Senior classes. Then when Miss Fisher sent for them to fix their schedules, they almost had nervous prostration. Poor things! A further show of idiotcy on the Sophs' parts is their belief that if they emerge at 3 115 each wearing a Scnior's coat that they will have the vast mental power of the Great Ones. The poor ones forget that the Seniors are naturally endowed with unlimited mentality and their faces cannot possibly conceal the fact. Innocent Dears, itls the inside that countsg however, we realize that to judge you either by inside or outside would be fatal. Their crowning act of stupidity was to pretend ignorance Qthey didn't need to pretendj of the fact that E. C, Glass isn't a kindergarten and school is not dismissed until 3 115 P. M. They miscalculated the mighty knowledge of the Seniors and tried to dash out during lunch time confusion. Not only did they show their mental deficiency by attempting the impossible-tricking the Einsteins-but they also rained down further disgrace tif possiblej on themselves by showing their complete lack of Emily Post behavior in not cleaning the entrances to the lunch room with their hair in order that the Mighty Ones might not be irritated by the sight of one wee speck of dirt. The softies developed the beginnings of muscle during the bond drive. They spent hours shaking their Piggie banks in the vain hopes of collecting 331875. Children, you must learn, for your own good, that something is not the offspring Of nothing. N 58 3f'D7bf 'ff xi wiv? The Business Education Departments, like all the other organizations, has been vastly depleted by the hoards of boys and girls leaving school to enter the armed forces or to find places in the wellfpaying jobs now open. Nevertheless, those who were able to come back realized how very important was the actual business training they received. Many have already taken and passed Civil Service examsg others will follow soon. As usual, students in this department have served as bookkeepers, treasurers, accountants and auditors, for various high school clubs, organizations, and publications. Also, Senior com' mercial students have acted as cafeteria bookkeepers, tellers, and cashiers. 8. The staff and the representatives make up the Library Council. Seven pupils work in the library during each period and before and after school. Under thc supervision of the Librarian, Miss Norvell Craighill, the staff members rotate on their several duties and also learn to do every phase of the library work. There are also a treasurer, collector, messenger, and two typists. The representatives of each home room bring the books to the library. The library is the heart of the school, and the council serves as the veins and arteries. f T lk' r, 1 .X . ., Q X Firsl Row: Fosier, Milchell, Holland, Dobson. All pep meetings preceding bond and paper drives have been led by the cheer leaders.
