Serziar Diary' September 9-School started today, and it's grand to be a high and mighty senior. September 19-We played our first football game today with Crewe. They beat us 5-U, but we have good prospects for our team. V September 22-Our scrap metal drive started today, and the school is really going at it in a big way. We got a powerful shove off with 2,228 pounds. October 8-Frank Hobbs, the Senior Council Chairman, introduced our class officers in assembly this morning. They are: President Hamner Gay, Vice- IpZeside1i1tLorene Dalton, Secretary Christine Mathews, and Treasurer Warren itc el . ' October 16-Senior Day! How wonderful it was to come to school eating and chewing .and hollerin' for all we were worth. King and Queen of Senior Day, Bichard Kunz and Helen Owen, presided over a hilarious assemblyg and all in all, this is one day l shall never forget. . October 17-We had a very successful walking Senior Parade, led by the band and our new drum majorette, Bunye Beinburg. After yelling all over Main Street, it was on to the stadium where our Hilltoppers, headed by Captain Sparky Blanks, beat Portsmouth 12-7. November 2lwOh, unhappy day! Despite the grand fight our team put up in the last quarter, Roanoke planted a ruthless blitzkrieg, 27-7, to end our football season. December 4-The David Garrick Club put on lt Happened Next Tuesday tonight, and it was something new. One of the best, l'd say. December lle-Our Senior Banquet was a great success, thanks to Anne Gowen and her committee. Following a very enjoyable speech by Uncle Charlie, we topped off the evening with dancing. December 15-Today we elected. Lorene Dalton as our Best Girl Citizen. She will represent our honorable edifice in the State. , February 23-24-I-low nice it was to have a holiday these two days, and how much nicer it was to help Uncle Sam with his grub rationing. March 10-We really had a novelty in assembly today. Iimmy Scribner, in personfintroduced us to his fun-making lohnson family. March 19-We're positively getting patriotic! The Student Council had a dance tonight to buy a flag for every home room. April 7-The select Seniors were bestowed with N .H.S. honors today. Hildreth Strode, Bobby Stickley, Christine Mathews, and Warren Mitchell are in the spotlight as officers. April 16-l saw the final performance of the opera Erminie tonight, CThank you Coca-Cola Companyll and the Commentators who put it 'at the top of the list were-n't talking through their hats. Lucie Wailes really showed for her honors, and Mr. Nicholas, Uncle Charlie, Miss Williams, and all the 'rest deserve a big hand. April 19-We really went over big on the Ieep Campaign which ended today. Instead of buying one we bought sixty-two with General Eisenhower handing over her sword to the victorious MacArthur and her fighting brigade. May 14-l saw Green Stockings, the Senior Play, tonight, headed by Buddy Curlee and Helen Owen. lt was a scream. Iune ll-Well, l finally made it, though I kind of hated to end my days at E. C. Glass. l-lere's hoping the following classes will have as much fun as we did this past year. Paying final tribute to our Alma Mater, it's now forward march along the winding road. 14
