NEW SYSTEM TO DECIDE GRID TITLES The Montana High School association board of con- trol has worked out a new system to decide the state interscholastic football championship, Eighteen high school teams in the state will 'have a chance to capture the state crown under the plan which provides for an AA conference and an A conference, the latter divided into two zones, each with two sub-zones. Six schools ,all perennial producers of strong football elevens, were placed in the AA conference. They are Anaconda, Billings, Butte, Great Falls, Helena and Mis- soula. The A conference includes in the South zone, Boze- man, Livingston and I-larlowton, with Glendive and Miles City in the East subzone and Roundup in the West subzone. In the North zone are Butte Central, Kalispell and Whitefish. In the West subzone Lewistown, and Glasgow and Havre in the East sub-zone. The AA conference will play a round robin schedule: the title based on the season's record, with play-off, if necessary, to give one club first place. The round robin schedule for the AA must be completed by midnight of Armistice day. ln the A conference, title-holders in each of the four sub-zones must be decided by the fourth week-end in October. The class A zone titles must be determined by November 4 and the class A champion- ship by Armistice day. The class AA eleven ranking second in the season standings and the class A champion will meet November I8 to decide the opponent in the state championship game against the winner of the class AA round robin. Thus the winner of the class AA round robin is as- sured of a place in the championship game, while any one of the other class AA teams or any member of the class A may win the other place in the play-off. SPRING FOOTBALL HAS RECORD TURN-OUT Fifty to sixty players turned out on March 20 for spring football. A., which was organized in I936 under the leadership of Miss Mildred Spaberg, started out with 30 active members. The club has maintained a steady and active mem- bership. Officers of the present year are Ruth Ness, pres- ident: LaVonne Hovland, secretary-treasurer, and Lois Crow, reporter. The aims of the club are to give girls more opportunities to engage in sports and to promote a spirit of cooperation among them. A club emblem, which is a red and white G, can be obtained only by participating in some regular sport during five seasons and making three teams. Miss Adena Schumacher acted as manager for the softball season this year. The two teams were captained by Esther Biddle and Ruth Ness and were refereed by Evelyn Bailey. During the basketball season the girls were coached by Miss Mildred Spaberg. Three teams were organized. The selected six of the two sophomore teams played the junior team, captained by Dorothy Turnacliff, for the championship title. This title has been held by the pres- ent junior team since l936. The class championship title was awarded to the sophomore team, captained by Ruth Ness. These girls have danced for many parties as well as many social clubs. Their costumes and perform- ances were admirable, The G. A. A. has sponsored many social activities just as they have in the sports program. The G. A. A. party, which has been held every year, is a very lively event. The picnic is enjoyed during an entire clay at a selected spot and the members play games, swim and eat. All- in-all the G. A.
