Glasgow Becomes Vocational Center in New Montana Educational Movement GLASGOW ONE OF THREE CITIES NAMED FOR STATE TREND TOWARD TRADES ln addition to the big increase in dimensions made last fall on the Glasgow shop, this department will receive another addition in the form of considerable new equip- ment. The shop, which is probably one of Montana's busiest and most efficient, will run on a full day's sched- ule of laboratory Work next year. This is made possible through a bill recently passed in the Montana legislature which provides for the establishment of vocational cen- ters in the state. Besides Glasgow, the other cities se- lected at the April meeting of the State Board of Educa- tion were Helena and Miles City. The purpose is to offer courses adapted to young peo- ple who want specific training in vocations. Glasgow's vocational center will emphasize auto mechanics, welding and machine shop practice. However, there may also be courses offered in agriculture and home economics if there is a demand. These new vocational centers of the state will offer advantages to both high school graduates and post-grad- uates. This will be a chance for boys and girls from Glas- gow and all northeastern Montana to get a specialized training in trades, ordinarily given only in specialized vo- cational schools of other states. ln order to permit the administration to prepare for next September, it will be necessary for students from this vicinity to enroll for these courses by june l. Glasgow High School is moving ahead with rapid strides in the most modern type of vocational training. ln the past year Glasgow's shop under Howard Peters has been enlarged to proportions as big as those of any in the state and contains the finest and most modern fContinued on Page ll.,
