T' !' V Aaour oun THEME Your annual staff has selected Mr. G. as the theme of the l960-6l annual. We feel that he is appropriate because he protrays GHS school spirit in the form of its mascot. The big brown bear's full name is Girard H . Smythe. No, he isn't real, but a paper mache' and brown cotton representation ofa mischievous bear named Yogi Bear . The editor and assistant editor wrote the Hanna-Barbera Company to get permission to copy Yogi. We would like to thank them for their co-operation . He received his name through a Name The Bear contest which was sponsored by your annual staff. The winning name was picked from the many names submitted by the student body. Mike Cannon, who gave the winning name, will receive a free annual. There were so many good names given that it was a hard choice and we sincerely regret that all whoentered couldn'twin . The staff wishes to thank the student body for their support and sugges- tions. Mr. G. has been present at some of our pep rallies and has represented the school mascot at ou I' Homecoming Game. Throughout the l960-6l Bear's Tale, pictures ofhim are used on the division pages. The staff has tried to capture Mr. G. going to school as the average GHS student. We have gotten pictures of him in classroom activities to show this.
