One morning I was browsing in the library and picked up a copy of WHO'S WHO of 1958, Imagine my surprise to find some of my old classnates listed there. Under the BIS I found NELDA BAPJPS name. Nelda is now rated America's No. 1 spydwologistg however, she is planning to settle down to a quiet ordinary life with LEWIS SUEPPHID, the best architectural engineer seen in a long time.. They plan to be mar- ried soon by Reverend JCHN NEAL The Rev- erend now holds services at the Big Sandy Methodist Church. His wife is the former Jeannette Olliff. JO ANY HUMFS was also listed in W'D'S WFD. 'She gained this position becoming secretary to the President. 1 returned the WHU'S WHO'to the shelf. Then a book entitled How I Mastered the Dictionary by JESSIE RLEFSQE caught my eye., Jessie always did have a huge vocalulary, and in this'book, she relates all the trouble she had in adding all the oords of of Websters' Unabridged to hervocabulary. Leaving the library I paused before a poster announcing the famed book reviewer FIALEAH was soon to be heard in a review of 'God's Little Acre. I decided to walk a while before returning homey and as Ifpased C1 ark's Pool and Dominoe Parlor, I saw the owner, BILL GARK, outside talking to Glarles CARI, who, by the way, is a new member of Al cholics Anonymous .Cbelieve it or not.l Iben I met BLBBY SAUCIEB. He was still wearing his A 8, lla uniform. It seems he still can't pass his courses there. He says his trouble is worrying about Linda. As I turned to walk on, someone grabbed meiand said, Hey, wanta buy a washing machine? The voice I recogmized as belonging to EUBBY SAWIILIN, who usee the same tactics now that he did selling annuals 'back in '4R. I finally got away from Bobby and entered aj restaurant for lunch. 1 picked up the morning paper and on the front page I noticed an article about Congresswoman SIEES, RUIH to her friends. 'Ruth is still trying to reorganize Congress. Another article on Page I was about the identity of Miss Hush, remembered by her classmates as JO ANN GUJPSOV. .lo ann was chosen because of the name she has made for herself as an actress. She recently played opposite BILL UEAW BUFHK in the Lone Hanger. Bill, tiring of the rodeo, resorted to cowboy pictures. - l h'N I t 0 Sleep - 'Q -s BQ I IQ if! -X -'O X -fs 4 . 39' WT SQQF' 4 xxoyix' QQ 2fl'3Wle C2731 0 ,f Si!! X! iff? PAT DIFFIE, star of the Bears in 48, is now playing first string center for the mighty White Oak Houghnecks. CHAHLES KELLEY, that avid baseball fan, is pitcher for the Bumble Bees now. ' Also in the field of sports was an article about the famous skater, TONY HAMMER. It seems Tony can't find room on the rink to skate be- cause too many girls clutter the floor swooning over him. On the advertisement page was an ad adver- tising the Plantation now owned by BUDDY TUGWEIL and EVERETT KELLER. OSLEH HUTSON with his Singing Sax leads his own band there every Saturday night. JANE TAYLOR the famous torch- singer is also in the floorshow. After I finished my meal, I started home, and on the way I met two more old classmates, the former RUBY GARY and BOBBIE WOOTEN who are now Mrs. Harold Long and Mrs. Jerry Johnston. They are still together constantly. They even live in a duplex. They said they were on their way to get their husbands from school. As I walked on I ran into BILLY'BOB-GREEN. He said that he and his wife fformerly BARBARA HOLCONBEJ were giving a party the next night and that I was invited. I accepted his invita- tion and went on. lhe next night at the party I renewed more old acquaintances. As I entered I heard a familiar laugh and, turning, saw OLIVIA MCDONALD Olivia is now paid by the Vernon Film Companv to provide the laughter of their films. The ownem of the Company is JEHUIE VERNON. Also attending the party were FALIA ANNE and PAT KLHCH. Falma still uses her maiden name, York, in her business. She is a commercial artist and draws all the funnies in the Union Grove Daily Press printed by UEAN HAY CALDWELL. Deanie always liked printing in school. Just then Mr. and Mrs. AIPHEU BUTLER entered the room, Mrs. Butler may he better known as HELENE WEPSTER. Al still has a good job as announcer for the Gleamo Toothpaste Co. on their radio show each Saturday night. Helene said that she left LEFERN NITCHELL sitting with her children. Lafern makes a perfect baby sitter. She sits all the time. And be- sides it gives her something to do while her husband fights. 'W- M JY W1 O L ,L o QQ 9 2 -2: W , :Q ,Ja 'cm f S. Making her entrance next was BETTY MCCULLEY who is now an Earl Carroll Beauty. Betty has all her costumes designed by EUNICE EAHROW who has always been interested in art, but confi- dentially there's not much costume for her to design. At the refreshment bar Navajo Evans was jerking sodas. She had just created her specialty for C. A. TURNER and HEHSHEL SHOTT who have been loafing all these years. They say they are still recovering from the shock of receiving their diplomas. HEWB COLE arrived at the party late because he had so many chores to do on the farm. He left Joy at home to milk the cows. LOU AWV DUNLAVY also arrived late because she ran out of gas on the way from White Oak. She said she wished Butch would hurry and pop the question so she wouldn't have to travel so much. FETTY FJEW stayed home because she was still trying to count the money from the sale of Eear's Tales back in '49. - , l saw a group gathered around the piano and upon further investigation foudd the player to he JO ANY LILLEY. She was giving her rendition of Foogie Woogie while JOE NEIUUGH and SUE WIL- SON jitterbugged. They have also become famous as lcGough and Wilson, dancing nightly in the Palm Isle floor show. DORIS OOYALWSON entertained with a few of her famous riddles. To date she has won 35,891 in radio prize money for asking questions. This was easy for'Ooris. STELLA CROSS announced that she had to he home early to be ready for class the next night. That began the breaking up of the party. Then was the first time I saw JO ANN MAX- WELL now a teacher of P. E. at Pritchett and NITTIE LOU WA!lREN, secretary to LOWELL ITBTNTN. Oude always wanted to be a petroleum engineer, but the closest he got to petroleum was owning a filling station. While l was there GLORIA JULlAV came around asking for donations to the Salvation Armv. CLAUDiNE POPE and JESSIE lAdNES were with her playing the drum and tambourine. After I got home l got out my '48 Bears Vale and found that I had either seen or heard of all the class of 18 except WANCY WAQSFN and FPANCESS TPUMIULLD 1 finally remembered that thev were now in Washinrton 7. At the beginning of the first semester Mr. Woodson, the sponsor, chose the annual staff. The first two weeks of school was spent in explaining different parts of the yearbook, learning to reproduce pictures, make plates, and to do other things connected with pro- ducing an annual. After the staff members had become better acquainted with each Other and with Mr, Woodson they asked to write down their first three choices of positions on the stafft By the third week of school everyone had been appointed a job and had been informed of the things he must do to hold that Jobs The editors-in-chief, Jane Taylor and LaFern Mitchell were given the responsibility of the whole annual, This meant that besides assembling the building pictures, faculty pictures, and feature sections, they must see that everything was done correctly, help other stu- dents if necessary, and keep up the spirit of the staff. JHHC took the faculty and the prophecy of the feature section, LaFern, the buildings and the will and calendar of the feature section, However, shortly after mid-term Jane had to give up her positiont Eunice Barrow, who had been art editor. took her olacer Besides 'Fw '1 '?f' Tj:-f--:1 ' 4' ' ' -'wr :V ' 'af 'gg'j - - fe -:l !!'l 'f 1- ' 'f ,- .',.,' - ',: -- ,- .1, ' .
