We were then engaged in a six years' struggle.. It is for us, the seniors, to present a portion of our record to those who have not thus far so nobly advanced. A bit frightened, yet eager to set out on another stage of our lives in a new and different world, we entered the seventh grade with smiling faces and trembling hands. When we had finally become some- what adjusted, we elected Nancy Franklin to lead us as president. As our representative to the Honor Council, Mary Brooks was chosen in the second term. Our first dramatic production was the play, Elsie in Booklandf' On the festive side, Nancy Turnbull, Carole, Anne, Lois, and Sandra had the honor of serving as attendants to the May Queen. Passing our first year, each of us entered the second phase of this new experience, happy that we had succeeded in the first and more ready to tackle the second. Muffet was chosen as our president, Joy and Dorothy were our representatives to the Student Council. Although we were sorry to lose Stella, Betty Vance, Mary Ann, Peggy, and Paty Jo, we were overjoyed to add to our ranks Sally, Harriette, Joan, Barbara, and Amy. Our second production in the field of dramatics was Not Tonight starring Don, Mary, Joy, Penelope, and Muffet. The ninth grade started off with a bang. Since most of us had been at G.P.S. for two years, we felt just about as big as the seniors. We numbered fifty-four and had gained Rochelle, Joan Gough, Vir- ginia, Laura, Nancy Pendergrass, Lender, and Michael. The verdant freshmen elected Eleanor to guide us in our third year. Assisting her in governing us were Charlotte and Nancy. In the field of our histrionic ability we presented The Mad Breakfast. Was it ever! Because of their good English grades, Marilyn, Sally, Judy, Muffet, Helen, Don, Mary Brooks, Mary, Nancy F., Pat, Susan, Nancy T., Joy, and Lois were elected to dust the books. With the excep- tion of a few who couldn't hit the right notes, the whole ninth grade made up the Junior Glee Club under the direction of Mrs. Glenn. They later presented Rex Gloria, Slumber Boat, and Smoke Gets in Your Eyes. For May Day that year the theme was a flashback on the lives of Grandfather and Grandmother. Part of the more energetic freshman portrayed the women voters of 1930. The other part of the ninth grade were old-time friends of aged couples and dii a dance in celebration of the couple's fiftieth anni- versary. This brought to a close the ninth grade of 1951. As in the Where, Oh Where's, the verdant freshmen became the gay young sophomores. As jubilant sophomores we were led by capable Amy, as president, and Dorothy, as secretary. Un- fortunately, we lost Marilyn, Pearl, Lender, and Peggy Joyce, but we gained Sylvia as a member of our happy band. To that wonderful informer of school affairs, the Static, we contributed three talented girls, Joy, Dorothy, Pat, and to keep us on t'The straight and narrow path we selected Joy and Susan Deakins as our representatives to the Student Council. Chosen because of their outstanding qualities, as well as brains, Susan Deakins, Joy, and Dorothy were elected to the National Honor Society. Many an off-key note was heard that year as We contributed Sarah Elizabeth, Harvey, Susan D., Eleanor Dixon, Nancy F., Helen, Don, Amy, Virginia, Carol, Dorothy, Ellie, Nancy Jo, Lynda, Pat, Frances, Sarah, Ann, Eleanor, and Mary Brooks to the Senior Glee Club. Biddingnau revoir to Shewmake, Penny, Laura, and Nancy Pendergrass, we entered our junior year by adding Thelma, Peggy, and Frances to our non-too-meager ranks. Hilda was our beautiful and capable president, and Charlotte, our silent tape recorder. The Static became Of the School, By the School, and For the School with Joy foriginalitylb as editor and Sue, Rochelle, Judy, Amy, Doro- thy, Mary B., Pat, and Eleanor as the punch behind the drive. Our year was kept strictly in ranks by Eleanor, as our secretary of the Student Council, Susan Deakins, and Dorothy. Mary, Nancy Turnbull, Rochelle, Judy, Pat, Amy, and Mary B. received the recognition of the National Honor Society. Lynda, as vice-president and secretary of the Music Club, and Nancy Franklin, as president of the Art Work- shop, kept up our cultural side. Rochelle, Presh, and Sue D. pounded the basketball court, and Rita, Cynthia, Dorothy, Sue D., Nancy T., and Sarah volleyed to become members of the volley-ball team. Mary and Sue D. were co-winners of the Grace McCallie Scholarship, Mary became Marie by win- ning the French award, Sue, puella, Sylvia, senorita. Our year culminated in the destruction of Washington and the Bristol station. fBunny hop! U The last year and the best was guided by President Judy and Secretary Thelma. Muffet headed the Welfare Club, Susan Stone, Le Francais, Lynda, Music Club, Carol, Glee Club, Michael, Camera Club, Nancy F., Art Workshop, Carole Sullivan, Theater Arts, Sue D., National Honor Society. Joy, the Most Active in School Affairs, was our scintillating editor of the annual with Amy, Mary, Nancy Franklin, Sarah, Lois, Mary B., Hilda, Nancy Turnbull, and Rochelle assisting. Hilda was our lovely May Queen, and Elizabeth, our Maid of Honor. Eleanor gained the highest esteem as president of the Student Council, with Pat, Dorothy, and Sue, as her colleagues. Carol Keese was elected most popular. In the first semester the National Honor Society took in Susan Stone, Sally Evans and Lois Winer. The brave seniors who struggled here have learned far beyond the power to add or subtract. The school will little note, nor long remember what they said here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is rather for us the younger to be here dedicated to the task remaining before theme-the unfin- ished work to which we, the seniors of Nineteen Hundred and Fifty-four, gave the last full measure of devotion. P.S. Any similarity to the Gettysburg Address is purely coincidental. Nancy Franklin llilrla Rr-vvr-s Uma WM!
