Mrs. Martin devotes time to counseling students As our one vice principal, Mrs. Martin is responsible for fulfilling the duties that in the other high schools of the city are ordinarily fulfilled by three or four. She is responsible for curriculum and guidance both. It is her job to evaluate and supervise courses. This year she has Worked hard to plan the new medical assistants' program which will be part of the school's course offerings next fall. A less pleasant aspect of her position is the handling of disciplinary matters, but her goal is always fairness and the Welfare of the student body. She also aids Miss Dowe in graciously greeting the many visitors who come to our building each year. There are in- galil Mrs. Martin often finds it necessary to consult or counsel with one of the students, and she enjoys these con- tacts with the girls. Here she and Mary Vanlsierop dis- cuss the distribution of the senior tea invitations. numerable eighth-grade tours designed to acquaint pro pective students with our special courses of study, and sl often leads these tours about the building, explaining tt special classrooms and equipment. Counseling with the girls is also one of her many acti' ities. She serves as supervisor of the educational counselo and Works closely With the school social Worker, attendanc counselor, school nurse, and other special personnel. Her position is a demanding one, but it has many re wards, too, for it brings her into close Contact with the girl and they are her first concern.
