I I v W X1 MISS HEDWIG BLEEG To Our Honored Chef These carefully blended pages are respectfully dedicated to Miss Hedwig Bleeg, long one of the chefs of our great mixing bowl, who retires this year. For thirty-one years she has faithfully and pa- tiently guided innumerable Girls Polytechnic stu- dents to mix correctly the ingredients of not only the many recipes used by her foods classes, but also those that make for a sound and useful member of society. Every girl who has been in one of Miss Bleegs classes has had the opportunity to discover the sat- isfaction of doing a job well. She has learned by precept something of courtesy, loyalty and gentle- ness. The topping of Miss Bleegs many contribu- tions to the school is her love for flowers. This is expressed in her devoted supervision of the fuchsia show and of the Christmas floral displays spon- sored by the garden club to which she is the ad- viser. The retirement of this beloved teacher is a great loss to the entire school. We wish her well in the new life she is stepping into and hope it brings her the great rewards she has so richly earned. Miss Bleeg carefully explains the proper blending of a recipe while future h0memakers look on. Proxies, with Councils As I look back on my fall term as student body prexy, I shall always remember the wonderful times I had with my Council and the student body. The nrst of many activities was the freshman party before school opened. lt was followed by the student body card drive, football jamboree, harvest dinner, P. T. S. A. drive which we won for the second year, and the distribution of the two thousand cards at Christmas time. To end these happy times, we had the election and in- stallation of the new student body olficers. I shall always remember these and many other events in my future years. Jld In Activities As our howl of ingredients was placed in my hands I eagerly grasped the handle ol' the mixing spoon. The mix- ing began slowly and it was often a struggle to keep the howl under control as it turned with incredible speed. Witlt eath passing day the spoon jerked and swerved, tossing me to and Iiro among the many aetix ities. As my hands hegin to ache, the spring Student Council eame to my aid doing more than its share of mixing within our howl. Senior Cfficers Leaol Classmates Once we stood at the beginning of a long flight of stairs. The climb looked easy, and for the first few steps it was. Soon we stumbled and occasionally fell, but we were always picked up and helped along by someone whose patience and understanding were remarkable. To these people we give our heartfelt gratitude. Sometimes, filled with a buoyancy that comes with having and sharing wonderful times, we seemed to climb effort- lessly. Never will we forget the dances, parties, picnics, or all the just plain fun that we enjoyed. Even though we will remember our past experiences they will be just memories, for our eyes will be turned upward toward the finish of our stairway. VC'e know that the climb will be more difficult the higher we go, but we also know that our lives will be fuller and richer because of the climb. We will never stop or look back until we have reached the end of our stairway to the stars. -GLORIA QUAYLE ns I. Anderson E. Bagley ry N. Benehel M. Bentson iheit D. Bulkley Ki. During each seventh period the staff worked throughout the year, taking and printing 450 in- dividual and all the club and activity pictures, col- lecting advertisements, drawing layouts. creating artwork, writing copy, taking picture orders, and doing the innumerable odd jobs involved in pro- ducing this memory book. Additional equipment, purchased last fall, was well received by the photography group. The 4x5 Crown Graphic camera took clearer pictures of large groups. The Dejur enlarger helped double the output of pictures in the darkroom. Time was taken from the daily routine for the dead picture sale of last year's prints and the Hal- loween dance, The Hoot Owl Rag, as money making projects for the book.
