Class Of19s7 First Row, Left to Right: L. Broadnax, H. Worthy, F. Dine, Mr. Drake, faculty adviser, B. I-Iershman, M. Bonsanti, J. Upham. Second Row: F. -Obelsky, R. Pitkin, E. Proborcsz, L. Jonuska, E. Fisher, C. Foster. THE ORCHESTRA Each Wednesday afternoon upon passing the Assembly Hall, one could see the orchestra rehearsing under the direction of Mr. Drake. At the begin- ning of the year a lively march or a group of patriotic songs for Armistice Day could be heard: but, as the months of December and January rolled in, the ear caught bits of gay and lilting Spanish music. The orchestra was earnestly prac- tising the score of Riding Down the Sky by Geoffrey O'Hara. Never will the music clubs forget the memorable performance of this operetta on January 29, at the Public Latin School. As spring came on, stately marches and noble strains found their way to the groups of eager listeners crowded about the doors of the hall: the time was being devoted to the preparation of musical programs for Class Day and Graduation. So the activities of the orchestra for 1936- 1937 came to a happy, successful close, fPage Sixty-sevenl

THE JABBERWOCK For Hfty years now, the JABBERWOCK has been the only school magazine of the Girls' Latin School. This year, as in the past, the success of the maga- zine has been due to the cooperation of the Jabberwock staff and the faculty manuscript committee, and to the support of the students both in subscribing and in supplying material for publication. The staff this year was an especially busy one. The associate editors, Helaine Kaplan. Virginia Hill, Cecile Favreau, and Mabel Bouldry, all did their part in furnishing manuscripts and in correcting copy. The Domi column, Mary Loughlin's specialty, Cthough she was a regular contributor of poems and storiesl was alive with school humor which she untiringly dug up from class room histories. Mary's column was supplemented by a Sports page by Louise Sullivan, '38, who certainly is fitted to write up the goings-on in the gymnasium. Jean Upham, the Exchange editor, must have spent most of her time poring over the magazines which the postman brought us from many schools all over the United States: but on those days when the blackboards car- ried the significant announcement, 'llabs today, 12: IO, she diligently wrapped Jabberwocks to send to all those schools from which we had received magazines or papers. Hardly a single newspaper article concerning a Girls' Latin School graduate escaped the notice of our Alumnae Column editors. headed by Lydia Jonuska. The financial end of the Jabberwock was handled by Louise Muldoon. under the supervision of Mr. Williams. who was unceasing in his efforts to increase the subscriptions, The work of the business committee. of which Shirley Cohen, Mary Miller, and Beatrice Margolis were members, was some- what rewarded by the announcement of 100 per cent. subscription in two senior rooms.
