December 1924 The Journal With Apologies to Milton “L'ALLEGRO!” Hence, childish high school days, Of sad detention class and homework born. In freshman class forlorn, ’Mid all the books my memory dis- plays ! Seek out some other soul. That ope’s thy portal, hungry for the light! Armed for the fight, I leave thee now, and say a fond good-bye: “Farewell at last, Girls High, And lessons vile, with which we paid our toll.” “IL PENSEROSO!” Hence, graduation joys, The final mem’ry of my schoolday woes, Yet every teacher knows I only passed each course by bluff and noise. Ah, now, I do repent The years I used for idle talk and play. Oh, how I rue the day I fooled around and never passed an “ex.” “Farewell, elusive ‘recs’! Oh that I had my time in study spent!” A. E.
