That tireless go-getter, Mary Miller, won the annual subscription drive. turning in one hundred per cent from her class long before any of the other captains. Frances Moran showed her ability in the literary line by winning the Christmas Story Contest. The third year girls gave the Prom this year with the co-operation of the Daughters of Isabella who sponsored a card party for their bene- fit. The Prom was as great a success as those given by the Central Juniors always are. Several members of the class showed great promise in the journal- istic line, winning places in the school creative writing contest. The Juniors consider their third year a credit to the school and are looking forward to an even more successful senior year. , it . Once more we were outstanding in intellectual, athletic and social activities. By a good deal of co-operation we were again able to give one of our peppy classmates, Mary Coyne, the coveted title of A'Miss Central- ite . Marv received this by obtaining lO.9OO votes. ln intellectual ability we likewise ranked high, always having a large number on the honor roll. A clever one-act play, How the Story Grew , presented by our T. C. Club won applause from the entire school. Members of our class took an active part in many of the school activities. including the Spanish Dramatic Club and the Operetta. Our commercial division walked away with attendance honors, having won the banner more times than any other class. ROONEY THE RETREAT This year the annual retreat, which was held December 5, 6, 7, was conducted by the Reverend J. A. Rooney, vice-president of Mount Saint Charles College. The retreat master and faculty were greatly pleased with the attitude of earnestness and sincerity displayed by the entire student body. Every morning the students assembled in the study hall, Where an altar was erected, to hear mass. Spiritual conferences, visits to the chapel, and recitation of the Rosary were the devotions for the remainder of the day. Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament concluded the services. On the eighth of December, Eeast of the Immaculate Conception, the students received Communion in a body. At the close of the retreat the girls dedicated themselves to the Blessed Virgin. Father Rooney then bestowed the papal blessing. 5555555355515 1555385313 ?llIllliflllllllllllllllllllll Vlllllllklllllliiillllll Ill hiQXXSXXSSNSXKXXSSSSXSKXXXXRN PACE TWENTY-SIX 3... XIMIC. THE GLEE CLUB For the first time in several years there was only one Cilee Club, composed of Seniors and Juniors. During the retreat several of the girls were selected from this organization to sing sacred hymns. The Cilee Club was in great demand at school as Well as public entertainments, contributing several numbers both at the declamation and commencement programs. The girls also gave a Thanksgiving radio concert over KGIR and entertained many times during the year at meet- ings of the Daughters of Isabella. No school assembly was considered complete without a selection by the Glee Club. The girls surely showed their excellent training and were a credit to their instructress, Madame Marie M. Leipheimer, who was tireless in her efforts to develop their singing talents. .'-T' A . i e 'LD' - ..L4.44Fl . ' 'C-TQ l Vclll 'lil llR'l Y . Our basketball team won third place in the interclass tournament by defeating the Sophs. 1928-29 We started our sophomore year with just as much vim and vigor as we displayed as Preshies. Early in the year we sponsored the most suc- cessful candy sale ever held at Central. As first organizers of the T. C. Club We upheld its ideals. The crowning achievement of this year was the winning of the basketball championship by defeating the Seniors 10-9. 1929-30 Realizing our importance, We first proved our ability as Juniors by having a goodly number on each Honor Roll. The Dramatic Club. under the able direction of Catherine Connolly. Nora Brouilette, Mae Mulholland and Norma Johnson, displayed its tal- ent in the various fields of entertainment. Our Prom, held April 25, was just as successful as it was spectacular. The basketball quintet were champs for the second consecutive year, downing the Seniors 14-5. 1930-31 Our Senior year was just one success after another. Both Central- ite drives were successful. Those winning honors in the Quill and Scroll contests were: Irene Harrington, first place in Montana. and Mary Lee, sixth place in the nation. Several others received honorable mention. Fourteen members of the Centralite staff were admitted into the Quill and Scroll Society. Our school paper won third place in the Columbia Scholastic Press Association Contest. and other honors. Catherine Duggan Was elected our cheerleader, and she certainly proved to be a peppy one at all the games. sxxxxxxxsxsss.xsxesxmNSsmxw 14 11141114 ln! IQVI! LAWRENCE MANION THE PRESI-IMAN GYM CLASS Physical education became a part of the Freshman course this year. Classes were held at the K. of C. gymnasium twice a week under the direction of Lawrence Manion. The work proved interesting and profitable to the girls. Selected groups made a public appearance between acts of the Op- eretta on March IO and at the Commencement exercises. 1-. f f L'4f4-,fgggg ' 1 z,',fz.1u.'1 4, a.,.f:7J7 fza-. - 27. ...fl 'f31':1f Ys..-- i::.k:s:LTi S-.xH1't'mf:1 PAGE SIXTY-FIVE ly -'.:. 7 1 . 9' 1,11111lzzzelllfzrlzeizlllizzzg 11111114 xxxxxxxxxxxw 3 DEDICATION To our Mothers, who have been the guid- ing lights of our girlhood, and who will be the models of our Womanhood, our Mothers Whose greatest joy is our success and happiness: with a love they alone deserve, with a gratitude they alone merit, We, the seniors, in a spirit of un- dying appreciation dedicate the 1931 Centralite Annual. 0 IllIlIllIl!!!?I Ilflflilllll A fu an 'Wh' f' a f . 1, g ms ssimxssssxxxxxxxsxxxxxssxi X. . , lg of SEN IDR BASKETBALL TEAM The Maroon Maidens regretfully close a very brilliant basket- ball career.
