Gira:-d's season was cut from eight to six games because of the flu that hit the area. The team played some good hall games and made their best showing against strong teams. All of the underclass boys feel the experience gained this year with bring a good 1958 season. Bottom Row, 1 to r.--Risley, Jacquinot, Brisbin, J. S. basketball squad had a fair season. The A team was slow getting started because they were hurt by the late football injury of Bloomcamp. The whole offense set-up had to be changed. In the district tourney at Erie they started to move. In the first game Girard beat Cherryvale and then beat St. Mary's of Pittsburg the second night to go into the finals against Fredonia. Fredonia beat Girard in a thrilling game to win the district title. In the regional tourney at Neodesha the Girard team finished fourth. The Girard B squad had a good season winning second in the league and second in the league tourney. The weather has not been good and training conditions have been very had because of the rain and mud, but the boys have worked hard and great improvement has been shovm in all events. In the Pittsburg Relays Girard scored lh points to lace sixth in a field of 25 class A schools. On April 18 the team scored B8 points in an eight team meet at Pittsburg. This placed them second. On April 22 Girard placed seventh by scoring 15 points in a nine team meet at Chanute where they competed with class A and 'AA' schools Oliver Turner John Brisbin Herbert Thompson Bill Whitcomb -28- Richard Bloomcamp Charles Southard sncunrrv PDLICE SCHOOL PATROL Every noon the six boys who act as School Patrol may be seen on the street corners south of the building, directing pedes- trian traffic with the familiar patrol flags. IRIVBRS EDIBATION The drivers education department had another good year. Forty-nine students com- pleted the course and all of them showed ability of being good drivers. Girard's drivers education classes were up with the top schools in the state in all re- quirements for proper credit. Classroom and in the car time was ahead of many schools. The school purchased a car of its mm for the class this year and this was a great help to those enrolled in the first semester class as they did not have to wait for a car. This was a big time saver and made the course more effi- cient. Bottom Row, 1. to r.--Miesner, Boatman, Christian, Mead, Herlocker, Matlock, D. Glad- son, B.
