A Jaaphzcg One ra1ny afternoon flfty years after the Doom' Cgraduatlon of the class of '54J a cadet DAVID GARST who was posted on an inner space station xn the sky walked 1nto the office of Superintendent Morgan Howard Lewls Mr Lewis IS the son of the latew F Lewis who was superintendent of the G1rard Community Schools in the year of nineteen hundred and fifty four Dave told Morgan Lewis that from his space statton he was able to observe many people and their actions He had the opportumty to talk with these people as they stopped at his space station to refuel their space ships It was amazing he said to find how many of his former classmates and friends he came tnto contact with He asked Mr Lewis if he were interested in publtshmg the news 1n the Alumni section of the H1 Lites Mr Lewis was delighted at hearmg th1s 1nformat1on and urged Dave to begin his story while his secretary took notes Well Str said Dave about a month ago while I was pohshmg the propellors of my Jet plane a flashy souped up space ship zoomed over my head circled a couple of times and landed with a bounce on the cloud next to rtune. I was beginning to wonder who the reckless flyer was when the ptlor stuck his head out ofthe cockpit and yelled Where can a guy buy some fuel around was anx1ous to see Don again Iyelled for him to hurry over whlch he did wtthout sparing the gas I was even more surprised to see SHIRLEE ALLEN and MARY LOU UTT the stewardesses of Don s plane climbing out w1th him, I l.l'lV1Ied them into my station where KAY EASTIN served us all a chtcken pill dinner A chicken pill dinner? the amazed Mr Lewls asked Well yes You see Kay has dtscovereda system whereby we subst1tute pills for food Very filling though I must admit somewhat tasteless But to get back to my story Whlle we were eating we talked about the good old days and the kids of our Sen1or class Iwas amazed to hear that DEAN JACKSON who was always the quiet one has become the trafftc director of all space ships traveling between earth and the moon RICHARD LAIR and MARVIN THARIO fwho I remember so well 1n our Social Problems classy own a fiber glass cloth1ng factory on Venus They send out their own original desxgns which have become famously known throughout the solar system. As a model for this firm GRETA BOWYER encourages buyers from many planets But aren t any of your classmates l1v1ng on earth? I wondered about that too s1r But as Don was on his way to Pluto to pick up the famous movte actor RICHARD WHITLER who had recently finished his debut for Stratosphere Universal Corporation and was ready to return to earth for a short vacation he could not be delayed anv longer to talk to me Having my curxostty aroused about the welfare of the rest of my classmates I was d1S8DDO1I'llw at this this place? However shortly after he left the telephone rang The operator s vo1ce was somewhat famtltar to me and as I was trytng to recall where I had heard that stlly laugh before II suddenly dawned on me That unmtstakeable cackle belonged to none other than SHIRLEY LANCASTER She told me she had just begun workxng for the Solar Telephone Company on earth and seemg my name In the telephone dxrectory had dectded to call and ftnd out how I was I told her about Don s vtstt and the mformatton he had gtven me and asked her 1f she could add anythtng to II She told me that LINDA CRAWFORD and ROY ADAMS had f1nally gotten marr1ed and were 11v1ng 1n a ltghthouse off the shores of Iceland Also that DON SUTTON and ROBERT MALHAM had estabhshed thetr own bustness f1rm tn Ttmbuctoo now an enormous ctty of the untverse They manafacture space sutts and helmets wh1ch have been very helpful to people w1sh1ng to travel a lot Along the entertatnment l1ne Shtrley told me that PAT NAGEL, CAROL DONALDSON, and JEAN COREY were now playtng at The Btg Dxpper on Mtlky Way Avenue The gtrls call them selves The Three Moonbeams and are qutte famous for thenr song and dance routmes I asked Shtrley 1f any of the ktds were st1ll l1v1ng 1n or near G1rard and found that NORMA MOLEN IS workmg at Mrs Tucker s factory 1n J acksonvtlle where her husband IS also employed CAROL CLEVENGER, who was always tnterested In the arts IS now pa1nt1ng the dots on dtce JOE COVERDILL, who was always so bashful wtth the gtrls IS worktng at the Hazel Btshop L1p st1ck Factory tn Sprmgfteld He and hts asststant MARILYN FRICKE test all 11DSI1Ck that IS sent out Shtrley satd thatJOAN HINCKLE has made qulteaname for G1rard as she won the unxversally wlde contest for best mother of the year Mrs O Nell and her ten cluldren w1ll appear before the Spacesmen s Gutld to recelve her award lt seems that JIM LAUGHLIN, now a famous sctenust and hts assttant TOMMY PETERSON, are workxng towards a way to lnvent breath savmg p11ls These ptlls they say w11l be a great asset to thepubhc espectally the pol1t1c1ans Mtss DOROTHY BRISTOW, now Mrs Don Daugterty ts a contented house w1fe She used Carnauon Mxlk I wondered 1f any of the old busxnesses were st1ll tn operatlon Shtrley told me that NORMA JACKSON IS now runrung the Jackson Cafe formerly operated by her parents DON GARBETT and DALE CRUMP have begun a lonely hearts club ID G1rard and are happy to report that mall has been pourmg 1n by the truck loads As head of the G1rard Nursery NORMA TALBERT WOLFE mxnds MARY ANN BOCK S three chtldren whtle Mary Ann works tn her factory on a new product Non tummy upset' pxlls for Jet pxlots Th1s concludes my report s1r and I can truly say I am proud of the success of my former classmates , .
