Til Fifth Avenue, New York, N.Y. 10022 In Dedication 3 ae Oe esc. ONE ee ee ree Bey Se J. Edward Goss | This year we recognize one who has bridged the gap between the students and the faculty. He is paid to teach boys phys. ed. and to coach basketball, football, and tennis. But the most valuable concept he dem- onstrates is the true meaning of understanding, friendship, and character. He is a friend who is always willing to help you straighten out your problems and to lend a hand when needed. He may be seen spon- soring the Key Club, participating in faculty plays, lining the football or baseball fields, on the sidelines at athletic events, or just walking through the halls teasing someone. His energetic and optomistic outlook on life touches everyone he meets and makes their day a little bit brighter. Because of his friendship and un- failing willingness to help whenever called upon, we the members of the 1978 yearbook staff, dedicate this year’s “Reflections” to Coach J. Edward Goss. 6 Dedication om a cence ete TE r The Gill Faculty i i — neath : 1 uw Julie Browne Mary Plummer Adrian Brinkley - Evelyn Yeatman - Virginia Covington - Kindergarten, Kindergarten First Grade First Grade Second Grade Coaching staff Debbie Lundquist - Lelia Fitzpatrick - Pam Wiseman - Gayle Ellis - Fourth Lucia Jones - Fourth Second Grade, Third Grade Third Grade Grade Grade Reading Katharine Belew - Kendall Miller - Fifth Brenda Fauber - Donna Adams - Art, Barney Lee - Lower Fifth Grade Grade, Music, Chorus, Sp. The A.F.S. club communicated with foreign students and students that have lived abroad and other A.F.S. clubs in the area to learn from them and broaden the members’ knowledge. The weekend’s activities started Friday night with a bonfire to encourage spirit for Saturday’s game against Tide- water. The Blue Devils trimuphed over Tidewater I4-0. Before the game a parade of floats, cheerleaders, and princesses circled the field. During halftime Arlene Coleman was crowned Homecoming Queen and Genie Williams was named Maid of Honor. As Saturday night concluded the activities, the SCA sponsored one of the best Homecoming Dances Gill has ever seen. Homecoming Princesses: 9th - Lynne Martin and Mary Ann Vaden, lOth Tracy Hardy and Teressa Grubb, I2th - Jan Wilson, Queen Arlene Coleman, Maid of Honor Genie Williams, and Annette Wilson. On May 7, 1977, the Juniors provided the Seniors with a trip to the beach. “Endless Summer” surrounded everyone with sand and ocean. A stroll down the boardwalk was nice, but you had to be careful not to trip over surfboards, shells, and bikes. Above the lifeguard stand was a mirror ball which provided romantic lighting along with stars and a blinking lighthouse. Food and drinks were served from the Tiki Lounge and a hot dog stand. High and Mighty provided rock and soul music. As this memorable evening continued, Steve Higgins and Debbie Bishop were crowned King and Queen of the Prom. It was sad when it ended, but ‘Endless Summer” will always be remembered by those who attended.
