A person who has al- ways placed her students first and self last. She has sacrificed many hours to assist them with their studies after school, to work on the Prom, sponsor the J.V. Cheerleaders, and to give encouragement and inspiration to everyone. Just as her name implies, she has given many fond memories and ‘‘joy- ous’’ moments to all. Faculty 15 RIE Ht miis eeeyn Upper School SCA The S.C.A., sponsored by Mrs. Bennett, has accepted many new responsibilities this year. Together with the faculty, they revised the Dress Code and sponsored a fashion show to demonstrate the acceptable clothing for school. All the members of the S.C.A. worked extremely hard on the Homecoming preparations and through their great efforts Homecoming was a big event and a tremendous success. The S.C.A. has participated in many money-making projects includ- ing several bake sales, a car wash and the showing of a movie. This year the S.C.A.'s goals were to represent better the student body and to try to express their ideas to the faculty, and help solve their problems. The S.C.A. continually strived to make this a memorable school year. 18 Activities Kathy Keller (P); Jean Bennett, sponsor; Robert Lefkowitz (T); Paige Brown, Jenny Wheeler, Kris Nance, Teressa Grubb, Mary Blanchard, Jan Wilson, Susan Williams, Kim Fulwider, Genie Williams (C); Michelle Gregory (S); Kathy Wright (VP). Mrs. Bennett, Robert Lef- kowitz, and Kathy Keller enjoy collecting money for the S.C.A. This year’s Key Club has been an enthusiastic one. It started with the club helping the lower school children find their classrooms on the first day. They helped with the concession stand at football games. The club also sponsored a food drive at Thanksgiving for the Crippled Children’s Hospital. This year’s club helped to improve the school a great deal. Lying: Willie Shewmake (C). Homecoming 1976 Homecoming '76 began with a bonfire on Fri- day night. Neil Gholson and Manuel Mouris in the tradition of the Olympics carried torches to light it. The previous week spirit chains were sold by the Pep Club. Students bought them and signed their names to them. These were joined together and pulled apart at the bonfire. Ann Via won free tickets to the Homecoming Dance because her name appeared on the torn chain. The following day Gill suffered a defeat at the hands of Nansemond-Suffolk, but this was no indication of the Blue Devils’ ability. The parade of floats was held before the game. The Senior Class float captured first place. During half- time Debbie Bishop was crowned Homecoming Queen by Mr. Gill and Kim Dawson, the Queen of 1975. Barbara Bass was chosen as the maid of honor. The Homecoming Dance, ‘‘Harvest Moon”’, sponsored by the S.C.A. concluded the Home- coming festivities of 1976. The Gill School Chorus has been involved in a number of activities this year. Many concerts for clubs and organizations were presented, as well as our performances at school. The Drama and Chorus classes have worked together in presenting a musical and attending pr o- ductions. A trip to New York was the highlight of the year. Both classes enjoyed the week-end which included a play on Broadway, a musical and a trip to Radio City. The Chorus is a close knit group with more in common than singing. We work together, learn together get through songs at the last minute, talk together and enjoy each other. Miss Matthews, our instruc- tor, is really the highlight. None of our feats would have been possible without her help, confidence and guidance. We may have been off key but she always said, ‘‘that’s great ‘Keep going’.”’ This year was great and for the Seniors their last. Everyone will always remember the people and the feats accomplished. Gill School Chorus was very special to its members. The club visited the Spider Museum in Powhatan, the Rich- mond Astronomical Society, the Virginia Institute of Marine Science, and the rock mines at Amelia, where everyone had an enjoyable time. The club was also invited by St. Cath- erine’s School to attend a film entitled ‘‘The Vanishing Eden’’ which was presented by the National Audubon Society. Wildlife Club The Wildlife Club under the leadership of Kevin Wooldridge, has shown much enthusiasm and interest in their projects and trips. Their projects in- cluded the development of the nature trail and the organiza- tion of a contest to keep the school clean. Another success- ful project they held was the Valentine’s Dance which took place in the Multi-purpose room. The club took trips to the Spider Museum and to Maymount Park for the day. They ended the year’s activities with a spring picnic at Forest Hill Park. Activities 29 Membership Cathy Pace, Pres. Robert Lefkowitz, V. Pres. Kathy Keller, Sec. Brad Clouse, Treas. The NHS is very proud to have her here, and is happy to send a student from Gill to a foreign country within a few years. The club has been very busy with other things this year also. A most impressive induction was held in November. Sixteen new members were inducted, giving the NHS a total of fifteen seniors and thirteen juniors who are members this year. The Bookstore began showing profits with the sale of Gill T-shirts and pens. Many other projects were undertaken in the hope of bringing another exchange student to Gill next year. The programs ranged from those of a religious nature to others which were informative and entertaining. “ 1 | Pai = EGS, m8 31 H pi “mother” Harty, who will loan you money if you forget your lunch or gently scold you if you go outside “without your jacket. Activities 35 Prom 1976 On the evening of May 8, 1976 the Juniors pre- sented the Seniors with ‘‘Gone With The Wind”, Prom '76. They stepped into a beautiful garden that contained a pool with live goldfish and run- ning water. The rock garden attracted those with cameras. In the center of the garden stood a gazebo complete with wrought iron chairs. A mirror ball sparkled around the room creating a romantic atmosphere. Spotlights highlighted the lovely mural of a sunset, and fluffy clouds floated in the sky. Sophomores served refresh- ments from a bakery and a livery stable. Juniors and Seniors danced to the lively music of the Andrew Lewis Band. As the evening pro- gressed, Pat Burch and Kim Dawson were chosen as King and Queen of the Prom. Fantastic memories of Prom ’76 still live in the minds of everyone who experienced ‘‘Gone With The Wind.” Some people rested after dancing to the fantastic Andrew Lewis Band. 36 Activities Gone With The Wind Hmmmm . . . it’s finger-lickin’ good. ne) c © a = = ® as = ® = a) C = Activities 37 JERRY WAYNE ANDREWS “Jerry’’—Baseball 9,10,11,12; Pep Club 11; Key Club 12; Hoofprint staff 12: Reflections staff 12. Dear Yearbook Staff: We the Girl’s Basketball Team have had a rough season. Even though it’s been a hard season it’s been a learning ex- perience. The record doesn’t show all the hard work, de- termination and desire that each girl felt during the year. We have learned to accept that winning isn’t everything, but you must learn from your defeats as well as your vic- tories. More important than victory is to know both sides of your teammates and be able to accept them for what they are. One thing that was never lost was our pride. Through all our hardwork, sacrifice, and criticism that we accepted, pride still came out on top. The season will have special memories for each of us because of the uniqueness of the team members and their various experiences during prac- tice and the games. The team would like to thank Miss Rosen, our Coach, for helping us with our basketball skills and teaching us many other lessons which will help us later in life. Thanks, Miss Rosen. Sincerely, The Girl’s Basketball Team P.S.—Here’s a list of the teams we played.
