Of this group of 15 only 4 rcuained in the class to graduate this year at Gilboa. With Mrs. Brooks as our teacher we enjoyed every minute of school with its good times. We hoped it would be like that all the way through, but we found that in the second grade more work was bestowed upon us which almost took the joy out of school. The rest of the grades passed quickly with the Christmas programs and plays given at the end of the school terms. Especially do we remember Tom Sawyer given when we were in the sixth grade. ' Finally in 1940 we found ourselves in Junior High School. Eleven very timid children trying to find their way around the mammoth assembly was a sight to behold. These two years passed more quickly than ever and we soon found ourselves ngreenu freshmen. Here was the initiation to which we had looked forward for years. It was rendered to us by the graduating class of n43u and a good time was had by all. This was the year we were able to have Phy. Ed. with the bigger boys and to our amazement some of the boys made the second and some, the first team before the year was over. Our sophomore year promised to be a very successful one. With Knoefel as president and Miss Honey as our sponsor we really had a grand time. Robert was selected to help the juniors and seniors with a very important part in their class play. he ordered our class rings of which we are very proud, had parties and other recreational get togethers, and laid plans for our most important years in school, our junior and.senior years. The Junior year opened with a bang. Robert was president and hrs. May, our sponsor. We gave the play nTake It Easyu which was successful. The receipts exceeded our expectations, Our rings had arrived and much time was spent showing them off. With the money we had in our treasury and a little help financially from the seniors, we took them on a trip to Chicago. lt was on the 13th of April, the day following the death of President Roosevelt hlthough Chicago was laden with teardrops, the brave Gilboains had a grand ti e. We visited the W. L. S. Dinnerbell program, Museum of Science and Industry, and the larger stores of downtown Chicago. In the evening we attended the famous nystery, the nTen Little Indiansn at the Harris It r Theater. We arrived back in Remington early the next morning. In the spring of the year the school had numerous skating parties at Fowler which left their mark for some of the juniors. With our junior year complete we were ready to enter the last and most important year in our high school career. There were eight very adorable seniors who entered the senior class on August 28, 1945. Taking the places of the former graduates was not an easy task at first, but we soon adapted ourselves to the job and are now well satisfied with our work. We were taken on a trip to Chicago by the juniors and all the places of interest were visited in the two days we were there. During the One of our year we held several parties - which were highly enjoyed by all. memorable events was the day our pictures arrived. We had them taken the first of November and upon their arrival we all stood around and wondered where the good looking class was that we saw on the pictures. Mr. May was our sponsor and Paul Clauss, our president. The class enjoyed sponsoring a Halloween Carnival which was s great success and netted a large sum of money. In fact everything we did was greatly enjoyed. he feel that all we are and all we ever hope to be we owe to our school, our teachers, our classmates and our parents. And we wish to thank them sincerely. f 5 EEQEZ , 335283613212 jf 55525511 .fi 4'6'o'vvq'o' -:5E5S5555E5i5S5S:1'f1 Q ':'.rS1 lenafvbif c25a r N f11 ogeoegbgwy-7 i g 'geek K n, .M 5.-51. ....... . , .-.Q R K .N ' 1521255255252 X fi: 'W :Z:Z:2:2:I: 'ESESKESESEEEEQSSSSS 4' .t . .-:3:5:- i i 5 4 E 5 1 s . First I decided to drop in at Hollywood and see if by any chance some of them had landed in the movies. As soon as I entered the set at Warner Brothers Studio, whom should I see but Miss Velda Beckley. Velda had come to Hollywood for a visit about three years after school was out and dght away a producer saw her and thought she would be just perfect for his next picture. Velda and I immediately went into a huddle and started reminise - ing. After leaving Miss Beckley, I decided I was hungry and should have breakfast. I saw a restaurant down the street and hastened toward it. As I entered, I heard a loud wolf call and a shrill whistle. I looked around to see who was so smart and got ready to slug him with my purse. To m sur- prise it was none other than Beryle Buschman. He had the poor waitress on needles and pins because he was leaning over the counter so far. He came over and we exchanged a few words. I asked him about his marital status. He said he was still single, but thought he had finally found a victim. He was engaged to a sweet little chick with blonde hair and brown eyes. They were to be married when she set the date. I hurried across thc street to my helicopter and soon I was back in good old Indiana. I made m way toward Gilboa and found myself hovering over the heel Homestead: Glancing around over the landscape, I saw over on the fence an overalled and strawhatted figure. I couldn't tell whether it was a scare crow or the hired man. Upon landing I found that it was none other than Ivan himself. While we were talking, we heard the most terrify- ing noise. Ivan let out a war whoop and one, two, three, four, no--f1v, youngsters came out of the barn. They swarmed around, all talking at once. Ivan said, 'Meet Pee Wee, Squirt, Spike, Jud, and Ike the Second.n Pee hee had a black eyeg Squirt had a bloody nose, Spike had a torn lipg Jud had the whole knee torn out of his pants, and Ike the Second had his arm in a sling. Ivan scowled and said, nSquirt, you can wash the dishes tonight and Spike, you can dry them. Jud, you can gather the eggs. Pda Wee, you do the milking, and Ike, you can sit on a chair for two hours.n I asked him about the Little Woman. He let out another war whoop that would have put Tarzan to shame. The sweetest little blonde lady canm walking out of the house. Dressed in blue and white gingham and stiff white organdy apron, she looked like a story book version of a farner's wife. I finally bade them good-bye and was on m way. I went to the Ritz-to have dinner and as I was sitting down at ny table, who should oome up to speak to me, but Knoefel Longest, accompanied by a beautiful girl. He introduced me and I invited them to git at ny table while we talked about old times at Gilboa. I asked what he was doing and he said he was a singer here at the Ritz Nightclub. I had the pleasure of hearing him and found that Knoefel was crooning his way into everybody's heart. I gave m helicopter all she had and soon we landed in hashington. Entering the building where m friend has a law office, I walked past a door partly ajar. I looked in, of course, and what do you think I saw? None other than Paul Clauss with a beautiful blonde sitting on his lap. hell, of all things, and right here in Washington, too. I saw on his desk the pictures of two very lovely looking children. Paul smiled and said, uMeet the Missus.u She was also his secretary. He said he found it more economical that way. It was getting late and I had several more stops to make. Just as I started crossing the street, some one drove right out in front of UH Bhd almost knocked me down. He parked and I went over to give him a piece of ny mind. Imagine my surprise when I saw that it was Paul Janssen.. Shortly after graduation he had come to Washington to become a taxicab driver. he had been there one day and saw a beautiful girl driving a taxicab, and right then and there he made up his mind to become one, too. I asked him if he was married. He said, uYes, I married the taxloab driver.n c5335 .vo Q3 v0 :Olga ,.f 0 0 i 1. oz.. 25' e?J59 - XXX V 0 1' , '3 555: t1f13.i6..1f2 Y fiiiizfifli .9 fQiE?q,dqagy egggypo 1 gli, Jufii r IT :fb 'b 0' ,ff ' 'W 4' H I . There were crowds of people and much excitement. I couldn't figure what it was until I was informed that Robert Kinsell was running for Governor. He had become very rich through some big business deal and was one of New York's leading millionaires. I wanted to talk to him, but knew I wouldn't be able to get close with all that cheering mass of humanity around him. I heard he was doing so much good for the city of New York, that I decided to give him my vote. While strolling down 5th Avenue the next day, I noticed a sign on an exclusive office building, nElinor Arnold, M.D.' Now I knew that Elinor had completed nurses training and was successful, but I didn't know, until I was able to secure an interview, that she had decided to go to a univer- sity e.nd become a doctor- I understand that folks pay her a fortune just to hear her tell mem to eat more and exercise less. As I lay in my hotel room that night trying to sleep I kept thinking about the Gilboa graduating class of' 1946. Within the past few days I had talked to all of them and I realized that they are all happy and successful in their different capacities. Gilboa should be proud of her sons and daughters. M . x --Lliror .'. 011 We, the seniors, think there should be a few changes made, or should have been, when we became seniors. First of all, why couldn't we fly to school in Piper Cub? instead of riding in those rickety Old busses? If the school board really appreciated us as they should, they would supply us with little cots so we could have a nap every afternoon. It seems as if the trustee could provide us with overstuffed arm chairs instead of the same old seats the rest of the kids have, .and a floor lamp beside each would be very convenient. And it's perfectly ridiculous that we have to walk up and down all those steps every day. If Nh:-shall Fields can afford escalators, why can't Gilboa? It does seem as if the underclassmen and faculty could treat us with the honor and respect that is due us. The freshmen have plenty of time to take us to our classes in wheelchairs before reporting to their ovm rooms. The sophomores should be required to serve us tea each afternoon, and a bar of candy would go very nicely with it. flhey have plenty, anywey.j You'd think the juniors would enjoy helping us with our lessons. After all they'd be just that much smarter next year. The teachers should come to us for advice. Since we have been seniors more recently than they, we feel that we are well qualified to settle all school difficulties in a very competent manner. fe don't think the teachers should scold when tho seniors leave the assembly without permission. After all don't they realize who we arc? 'ffhj' should we pay to see basketball games and class plays? The other students should feel honored by our presence. Je also think we should have an afternoon off each 'seek to g0 to the movies, bowl, or do whatever we please. Why should the seninrs have to study or even go to school at all this last semester? 'e'ye been doing that for the last twelve years and it's getting a little old. We would appreciate some special attention to cur abilities. C: icials shruld be notified to be or hand commencement night to grab us off to fill their responsible positions. And here we are just about ready to graduate and the teachers ar-en't even trying to find farms or hunting' up equipment for us. They surely know they are hard to ret. ','.'e do hope. that the school will go on after we':-e gone but doubt whether or not it can withstand the blow of cur departure -and the alzsen-ze of our counsel. .I , Qvvv.'Q' -:f:f:f:j:fgfg:5:5 fi 'I 52:93:59 ,wolf I xi.:.:.:.zIi ' - s2'?f42'!'f riff' es f ,..3::::::: : Q:0tO,'.4'1'5'u X . ..::::: . While the judges were making their decisions, the Early the second semester an ice-skating party was enjoyed at Virginia Atkinsonls home. After skating awhile, the guests went up to the cabin, where they roasted weiners and danced. - This has been a big money making year for the sophomores. With the cooperation of Mr. Puett in getting candy for them and the help of their sponsor, Miss Jennett, they had a very prosperous year. They received their class sweaters and the blue and white combination is stunningl Their class rings also arrived this year and they're very proud,of them. As this yearbook goes to press, they have made plans for, but have not yet taken, a business trip to Lafayette. On this trip they hope to visit banks, business offices, telegraph offices, hotels and other places they have studied about in general business and to get some practical experience in some of the things that are rather new to them, as using a dial tele- phone, wiring home for money, tippingwaitresses, riding B city bUS, etc- The following officers steered the class through the year: Ruby Dex- ter, presidentg Gene Stoeser, vice president, Faye Marie Pampel, treasurer, Howard Smith, secretaryg and Miss Jennett, sponsor. Now this year is almost done They're looking forward to two more years of fun. And with the teachers help, between their periods of play They hope to become geniuses some happy day. .- ,Q A- .t xi? iggaggsaak .JHRESEJ 4 Eff?
