. Ts-W-- Closs History September, 1955, we are there. Yes, remember that first day at Gilbert, everybody in his new clothes and looking his best. C My how times have changed.J As freshmen we were subject to all sorts of antics by the upperclassmen. But soon we took our part in running the school by electing Fred Paris to the Student Council. We began to join clubs and really take an interest in the Golden Halls. Boy did we have fun when the social life got underway--the Dramatic Club's By I upiter, the Alumni Game, and the exchange concert with Keen, N. H. Our class was well represented in all these activities. But there were still- more new experiences Gilbert's marking system, exams, and of course how to get in good with the teachers. Though we had much fun, we all looked forward to those carefree summer days. No sooner had they come than they were over and we found ourselves back in school. But as sophomores, much wiser and more grown up than before. The center of things for 1956-57 was Room 9, Miss Little- field's room. Remember fish, snakes, hampsters, and the duck? And how could we forget the smell of phormaldihite? But we had other things on our mind too. This year we elected Sheila Garbus and Bob Ransford to the Student Council and had a more active part in the Youth Activity Council. Remember how we cheered for Butch Machowski, Tony Marino, Bob Hanley and Io Di Martino at the football games. We excelled especially in basketball and worked our way to the C. I. A. C. tournament with East Haven. The year was over too soon! With the beginning of the 57 -58 school year, we were at last upperclassmen. This year we were really big shots. We elected Sheila Garbus and Dennis O'Keefe to the Student Council for two -year terms and Pat Hunt and Ameila Nero for one year terms. Soon after the class officers were chosen -- President, Dennis O'Keefeg Vice President, Tony Italiag Secre- tary, Diane Pulverg Treasurer, Tony Marino. Our leaders and talented classmates really began to be noticed by the rest of the school. Sheila Garbus scored in the writing contest at C. S. P. A. and the Gilberteens went on to win second prize at the New England Music Festival and also to appear on T.V. Oh yes, remember the T. A. P. Minstrel and the other money raising campaigns. Two other events were the TB tests, with every- one anticipating a long visit to the sanatorium, and the unforgetable Faculty Game. As the year was drawing to a close everybody was looking forward to the prom. The juniors working on the committee were Tony Blatz, Jan Foster, Kathy White, Ann Martin, Dennis O'Keefe, and Bob Hanley. Kathy White and Sheila Garbus were full of stories to tell about Girls' State and Boy Hanley, Brian Dunn, Tom D'Amore, Billy Dyer, and Danny Ostapko had quite a bit to say about Boys' State. Bob Ransford and Butch Machowski were equally eager to share their experiences at the Bob Cousy Basketball Camp. Finally we had reached the top. We were seniors. Practically every club claimed a senior as its presi- dent. We were really going places this year. Sue Chapman, Judy Carey, and Gail Skilton became honorary members of the Winsted Womans' Club.
