5 A Campus Farewell . . . Did you know that . . . 1. This campus is on the site of the old Gilbert airport? 2. The baseball field used to be a bird preserve? 3. The office used to have win- dows with a pay phone and a soda machine outside the door before an arson fire in l9Y'1? 4. There are 300 parking spaces with over 500 automobiles on campus? 12 ?y it O O . . . or 1S 1t? eventy years ago, less than one-hundred students at- tended the old Gilbert High School. When news came that there would be a new school, a lot of people were not excited. But among the disappointed there were those who were anxious to broaden their horizens. The present school site quickly developed traditions like state championships in events such as band and football. It even exper- ienced tragedies such as the loss of lives of many fellow students. But the schools spirit has helped us Q .M yigavuak 2 in M ,LE V l N: I y M Q my a students to overcome these losses to a point where we could kee fighting to be iil! Well the time has come to moi to another school. It may tal-1 some time to adjust to the ne' campus and to start new trad: tions, good and bad. But we wi try to keep our school on top! So : it good-bye? Maybe to the campi but not to the spirit and man memories that came out of i which are enough to last a lifetirr or two! Thanks G.H.S. , 'A ,QV -, s. if ,,,' el 1'
