XX 2?A'E our pencil and paper under our arms 1 e 'din a school bus for the first graders, many were ri g time that morning. We were as full of curiosity as the legendary cat, as confident as Napoleon, and as willing and able to learn, as our achievements have proven, None of us knew what room to enter, but to heck with that! We were still willing to find out all about it. Soon we were seated in a large room, which was the auditorium. We were divided into two sections with Mrs. Margaret Hatfield, sponsor of the I B section, and Mrs, Genevieve Eplin, sponsor of the A section, Late r, Mrs, G, Eplin left, and was replaced by Miss Janice Lester, After becoming acquainted A with each other and our sponsors, we elected class officers in both sections. The l class officers of A section were: Jimmy Goad, president, Janet Ferrell, vice-president Phyllis Cline, secretary, and Carol Ann Browning, the student council member. The A officers for B section were as follows: Ronnie Musick, president, Emma Gail Murphy vice-president, Louise Thompson, secretary and treasurer, and Lewis Jackson as the student council member. Our cheerleader was Martha Ann Dove. Our first year at GHS was one to remember, First, there were our sponsors, who kindly guided and directed us with patience, Then we became familiar with the school itself, its rules and regulations, its rooms, and its teachers, Last, but not least, we became acquainted with each other. Although this was perhaps our most difficult year, it was our most profitable one because we had made a beginning on the first rung on the ladder of knowledge, and - came through with flying colors. - After a pleasant summer vacation, we were once again excitedly awaiting the I beginning of the new school year, because we were now in the eighth grade. Mrs. Margaret Hatfield was still the sponsor of B section, while a new teacher, Mrs. Thelma Hatfield, sponsored section A. From section A, class officers this year ' ,were Jimmy Goad, president, Zella Faye Ellis, Vice-president, Carol Ann R Browning, secretary and treasurer, and Shirley Collins, student council member, In section B, the class officers were Ronnie Musick, Jean Lester, Louise Thompson, and Dwight Hinkle who were selected for '. the Same re Spective offices, Zella Faye Ellis represented our Class' as one of the junior high cheerleaders. During the 1, eighth grade we continued our class work, ahnost A th unnoticed by the upper classmen.- S 6 senior high KK 5,
