r ' it c ' ..,, W P ii-5 'Li Co-cap! Robert Nan ti FCJOT The Gilbert High School Buccaneers started off the 1955 football season in low gear by being defeated by the Aurora Blackhawks, 27-O. Though the Buc's play was marked with considerable fumbling they showed their fighting spirit and stiff defense by holding the victory-bound Hawks scoreless in the third quarter. They were, however, unable to stop Aurora's thirteen point deluge which came in the last period of play. The Bucs suffered their second loss of the season at the hands of the Nashwauk Colts in a lopsided tussle. This night game was a rough, tough one sided struggle. They came closer to victory in the homecoming game against the Tower- Soudan Eagles by holding them to a 6-6 tie. Tower Soudan scored the first touchdown in the remaining 35 seconds of the third quarter. Gilbert's scoring pass from Micheletti to Sandstrom was just 3 minutes before the final gun went off. Both the teams failed the extra point attempt and so ended the homecoming game for 53. The rampaging Bucs next sank their teeth into the unbeaten Mt. Iron eleven and came up with another tie game. After many trips just short of the goal line the Bucs finally forced themselves into the end zone via a pass from Veronick to Fumia. The team showed fine defensive play in this well-matched struggle. The next threat to the fighting Bucs was the strong Buhl team. The Bull- dogs dominated this 26-9 skirmish which was literally all wet when it began to rain late in the fourth quarter. -w ff.ffl1ff'ii i . ,J .
