JUNICR CLASS HISTORY SEATED, lefl Io right--B. Kukar, lrerzrznem f. Laztem, preridenzg D. jufr, rife prefideflfg M. Malkozfifh, Jecrelary. FIRST ROW- M. Sereno, A. Ghjzpe, D. Bfllfcl, S. jawir, f. They were: president, Jack Lakso, vice president, Darlene Jofs, secretary, Marie Malkovich, and treasurer, Barbara Kukar. The juniors determinedly set out to improve their financial status. They began their junior year with a deticit of 34.80. On November 9, 1953, they put on a carnival in a gayly decorated gym. Starting in the afternoon, the carnival consisted of many games and prizes. The Cakewalk, with prizes being cakes made by the juniors, proved to be very successful. The sophomore-sponsored shooting gallery also was well liked by everyone. Movies were shown during the day, and in the evening the student council put on a variety show. It consisted of songs, dances, and a pantomine. Refreshments of pop, ice cream, hot dogs, and pop corn were also served during the day and evening. To climax the evening, a beautiful gold horse with a clock embedded in it was raffled off. On December 18, the juniors sponsored the fifth annual basketball homecoming. Coronation cere- monies were held at the homecoming dance following the Eveleth-Gilbert game. Marie Malkovich, with nine attendants, reigned over the festivities. Also, in December the boys of the junior class went out and used their muscles cutting Christmas trees which were then sold to the school. These trees were placed in the junior and senior high schools and lended each room a Christmas atmosphere. It was a great day for the juniors when their class rings finally arrived. They claim that their rings are the nicest that any other class ever had. Every ring was kept well polished for the next few weeks. ln the spring, the juniors put on the annual Junior ior Class Play. The cast under the direction of Miss M. M. Feyereisen worked hard for many weeks to put on this play which proved to be very successful. On May 21, 1954, the junior-Senior Prom, the big event of the year, was held at the Gilbert Community Center. A gay atmosphere pervaded the building as class president .lack Lakso led the grand march. That night for both Juniors and Seniors will remain as one of the high-lites. This past year, the Class of 1955 has proven to be very successful in all of its projects, may they attain as much success in the year and years to come.
