B. RAY HENRY B.S., M.S., Southeast Missouri State College, University of Missouri. Advanced Graduate work at the University of Tennessee. WE. DEDICNETI-HQ 1965 GIQEMOTO - AFTER A BALLGAME After the Homecoming Bas- ketball game, Mr. Henry and son David chat with Mr. An- derson in lobby of the new gym. Mr. Bailey Ray Henry graduated from Flat River High School, Flat River, Missouri and attended college at Southeast Missouri State College at Cape Girardeau. He received a B.S. in Education with majors in Soci- ology and History, and minors in English and French. From the University of Missouri at Columbia he received his Master's Degree in education. His graduate major was City School Administration. At present he is doing advanced graduate work at the University of Tennessee. Mr. Henry has been active in professional organizations, These in- clude the Missouri State Teachers Association and the National Education Association. In many organizations his ability for leadership has been demonstrated. He is President of the New Madrid County Association of School Administrators and is Past President of the New Madrid County Teachers Association. For 4 years he was a member of the Southeast Missouri State College Superintendents' Advisory Committee and in 1964 was President of the Southeast Missouri Association of School Administrators. ln 1962 Mr. Henry was chosen as a delegate to the Regional White House Conference on Health, Education, and Welfare. THE HENRY FAMILY - Left to Right: David, age 9, Mr. Henry, Mar- AT HONOR SOCIETY BANQUET -5, 1 tts it gflfx Mr. Henry takes time out to join National Honor Society members at their banquet. L Because of his fair treatment of his staff, his rapport with the Board of Education, his wholehearted support of extracurricular activities, and his never-tiring efforts to improve the quality of the Gideon Schools, Mr. Henry is respected and well-liked by students, faculty, and other school personnel. Mr. Henry is also an asset to the community, evidenced by his partici- pation in civic activities. He is a past President of the Gideon Kiwanis Club, a member of the City Library Board for nine years, member of the City Council Advisory Board, and has been of tremendous value to the city of Gideon in heading the committee which planned and worked out details for Gideon's Sewage disposal system. He is a member of the Methodist Church. Mr. Henry's hobbies are reading books on philosophy and doing gen- ealogical research. He became interested in genealogy when he discovered he was a direct descendant of Patrick Henry through the early American statesman's oldest son John. i Q cus, age 13, Mrs. Henry, and Jeffery, age 6. - M124 B. PAY HENRY The yearbook staff chose to dedicate this 1965 GISEMO to Mr. Henry early in the year even before his acceptance of a new position with the Farmington Schools, Farmington, Missouri. This dedication is perhaps made more timely because of that fact. However, the real significance of this dedication is to point out the service and inspiration Mr. Henry has given to his community, his profession, and the Gideon Schools. We, as students of Gideon High School and as members of the year- book staff, hereby recognize his many contributions to our education and do dedicate this 1965 GISEMO to Superintendent B. Ray Henry. 3 In his office, Mr. Henry confers with his secre tary, Mrs. Joanna Moore. On the first day of the 1964-65 school year Mr. Henry talks with students and faculty members. ,,,.-za, BILLIE BURSON N 'X fl FOEEWOIZD We, the editors, on behalf of the yearbook staff present to the students of G.H.S. their 1964-65 Gisemo. The Gisemo contains pictures and words which we think will enclose the memories of the 1964-65 school year. We hope that as you thumb through each section of this book you will be reminded of the activities, fun, and studies you participated in during the spring, fall, and winter months at Gideon High School. Bonjour! This might be the greeting you would receive if you attend a meeting of the GHS French Club. To stimulate interest in the culture and language of France and to supplement the French course are the purposes of this club. The French Club was started in the 1964-65 school year. Oddly enough, Susie French was its first President. Sponsor-Mr. Jack Gray 56 TOPIC Resolved: Nuclear Weapons should be con- trolled by an International organization. This topic brought about such questions as: ls nuclear war a serious threat and are Com- munists getting the edge in the nuclear arms race? The Gideon High School De- bate Team argued many questions similar t'o those throughout the 1964-65 Debate season. New this year was the formation of a League in which members were given points for participation in debates, impromptu, and discussion meets. The A team debaters and their partners were: Billie Burson and Linda Hatley: Susie French and Ray LaBrot: Marie Drennon and Mary Werner. Mike Duncan, Jackie Baker, Allen Fowler, and Johnna Huie are good prospects for next year's A team. nzemcuctue hx X W ,ff QI-IOP i Shop students busy themselves with various projects which have to be sanded, scraped, and glued.
