The Board of Education is composed of six members elected by the citizens ofthe school district. Each April two people are elected for a term of three years. The position of the board might be explained in this way: The super- intendent of schools is the executive officer of the systemg the members of the board of education are the directorsg the teachers are the officers and the citizens are the stockholders. These gentlemen donate their time and effort in helping to direct not only an educational institution, but one ofthe largest business concerns in the community. 3 ,R A Ms 7 ? bfi 1 1 .- .- a hu 5 1 -:iv X K r yr fb .gf , ,H , sa X fxwsr A . ,,y,x3,L. 35' 3535 wb L f.. A federal government subsidy of seven cents per plate, coupled with quan- tity purchases at wholesale rates, makes this possible. Govern- ment regulations require that each pupil be served one-half pint of whole milk with each meal. This lunch room is one of the largest in the state. The equip- ment includes a dish-qashing machine, a potato peeler, a slicer, a big baking oven, and eighty gallon aoup kettle, two big reftiger ation units, and provision for each pupil to wash his hands as he enters the lunch room. The following women have the responsibility for providing wholesome and well-cooked food: fLeft to Right, Mrs. Bookg Mrs Dan Ryallsg Mrs. Lula Schatzg Mrs. Louise Lawrenceg Mrs. Car Vaughng Mrs. ELL. The Gideon High School debate squad, composed entirely of first year debaters, had a very successful season. The debate season began with a trip to Columbia to attend the ann- ual Forensic Conference. Gideon High again became a member of the Missouri High School Debating League. During the 1949-50 season they participated in eight tournarnents, including two practice tournaments at home. The Debate Squad's interest in debating increased as they realized the lasting value of the skills they acquired. They learned that debating is both a science and an art for it deals in systematized knowledge, the application of that knowledge is an art. Qw, f, AX ff X X!
